Job Description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the global leader in cloud computing, offering a broad and comprehensive suite of products and services relied upon by startups, large enterprises, and government organizations worldwide. As the backbone that supports millions of users, AWS maintains an extensive network of data centers that power digital services and applications for a diverse array of clients. By constantly innovating and expanding its infrastructure, AWS ensures high availability, security, and scalability to meet customer demands. The company's commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction is reflected in its mission-critical facilities, which operate with an extraordinary 99.999 percent uptime, guaranteeing that the digital world keeps running smoothly.
Joining AWS as a Data Center Engineering Technician means becoming an essential part of this high-stakes ecosystem. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting the electrical and mechanical systems that keep AWS data centers functioning optimally. These systems include standby diesel generators, fuel systems, three-phase electrical networks such as switchgear, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), power distribution units (PDUs), and wet cell battery banks. Additionally, mechanical components like computer room air handling units (CRAUs), centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, water chemical systems, air handlers, pumps, and motors fall under your scope. Your role extends further to include monitoring fire and life safety equipment, building automation systems, and general facility infrastructure that ensures continuous power and cooling availability.
The Data Center Engineering Technician role is fundamental in sustaining AWS's promise of reliability and availability. Your daily responsibilities will include conducting building rounds to monitor and record data from critical systems, responding to facility and rack-level incidents within established service level agreements, and performing preventive maintenance and root cause analysis. The position requires a flexible work schedule with possible shifts of up to 12 hours, rotating rotations, and on-call duties based on site needs. Furthermore, you may be required to support multiple sites and travel as needed, particularly during facility development or training phases.
AWS values diverse experiences and encourages candidates from unconventional backgrounds to apply. The company's inclusive culture fosters innovation, connection, and collaboration, ensuring employees can bring bold ideas and own their projects to completion. With a focus on mentorship, career growth, and work-life balance, AWS provides a supportive environment for professional development.
The position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $36.00 to $63.00 in Sparks, Nevada, accompanied by additional compensation such as sign-on bonuses and restricted stock units (RSUs). Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance options, employee assistance programs, mental health support, flexible spending accounts, and parental leave. Amazon also supports a diverse workforce and provides accommodations during the hiring process to ensure equity for all applicants.
Join AWS as a Data Center Engineering Technician and play a critical role in powering cloud infrastructure that drives innovation across the globe. Your expertise will directly impact the seamless delivery of services to millions of customers and the continued leadership of AWS in the cloud computing industry.
