Committed to providing safe, reliable, and cost-effective electric and gas services, CPS Energy is a cornerstone of community progress, growth, and sustainability. Our diverse workforce includes engineers, power plant managers, electricians, accountants, risk analysts, and much more, all united by the common goal to enhance the quality of life for the residents and businesses we serve. At CPS Energy, we embrace innovation, collaboration, and responsibility in the delivery of our services, ensuring that we meet the evolving needs of a dynamic energy landscape while maintaining our commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.

The Senior Engineer position at CPS Energy plays a critical role in the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of the generation, electric transmission, and distribution systems. This full-time role is classified under Pay Grade 17, with the placement potentially adjusted based on qualifications. As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for the engineering oversight and technical leadership involved in the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of diverse systems including power plants, transmission lines, substations, distribution networks, gas systems, and control centers. Your expertise will directly influence the reliability and economic performance of the systems that deliver essential energy services to customers around the clock.

This role involves supporting complex, multi-disciplinary initiatives that require cross-functional collaboration. The Senior Engineer will partner with teams spanning generation, transmission, distribution, gas, forecasting, finance, regulatory, and operations to evaluate large sets of technical data, support long-range system planning, and develop actionable recommendations. Success in this role demands a professional who is comfortable navigating ambiguity, building new processes, and shaping innovative programs to respond to evolving industry needs. The work environment demands versatility, with both indoor and outdoor responsibilities, occasional travel, and the flexibility to work beyond traditional hours when necessary.

As a trusted subject matter expert, this position will guide, mentor, and train junior engineers while overseeing complex projects that impact safety, timeline, cost, and reliability. Responsibilities include ensuring projects are delivered on time and on budget, overseeing major engineering programs, providing technical input into evolving programs, and preparing clear, data-informed presentations for leadership and stakeholders. The Senior Engineer is also expected to identify risks and opportunities within interconnected energy systems and recommend improvements to enhance system performance and value to customers.

CPS Energy values a collaborative and communicative working style and prioritizes professional development and continuous education. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in engineering principles, demonstrated ability to manage complex projects independently, and effective interpersonal skills to work across departments and with diverse teams. This position requires Texas Professional Engineer (PE) certification and a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited institution. Preferred qualifications include transmission engineering experience and a master’s degree.

At CPS Energy, our commitment to inclusion and equal opportunity ensures that all qualified applicants receive consideration without discrimination based on any protected status. If you are ready to join a company where your engineering expertise contributes to lasting community impact and you thrive in a challenging, evolving environment, we invite you to apply for the Senior Engineer position today. The application remains open until filled, reflecting our ongoing commitment to finding the right candidate who embodies our values and technical excellence.
