Job Description

The University of North Florida (UNF) is a vibrant and diverse public university committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for students, staff, and faculty. As a Carnegie Community Engaged Institution, UNF emphasizes its mission to collaborate with community partners locally and globally, contributing to the public good and preparing engaged citizens for the future. With a strong focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, UNF does not tolerate discrimination or harassment based on genetic information, race, color, religion, age, sex, disability, marital status, national origin, or veteran status. The university is dedicated to maintaining a safe and supportive campus climate, which is reflected in its policies, student services, and outreach programs.

The Office of the Dean of Students plays a critical role in supporting student success, wellbeing, and engagement on campus. Within this office, the Resolution and Engagement team is seeking an Engagement Specialist who will be instrumental in promoting university resources and initiatives designed to enhance the student experience. This hourly position pays $17.00 and requires availability primarily on Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., coinciding with Market Days on campus, as well as additional flexible hours as necessary.

The Engagement Specialist serves as a dynamic advocate and representative of the Dean of Students Office during Market Days and other outreach events. Their responsibilities include organizing and managing the logistics of these events, such as scheduling, setting up, tearing down, and distributing materials. By engaging with students, faculty, and staff, they help to promote key topics related to student wellness, campus safety, substance use prevention, hazing prevention, self-care, and resilience. This role is vital in fostering a strong connection between the Dean of Students Office and the university community, ensuring that campus-wide educational initiatives are well-publicized and inclusive.

In addition to Market Day activities, the Engagement Specialist collaborates with teams across the Dean of Students Office to coordinate outreach efforts and signature events that align with the university’s goals for student development and safety. They use social media platforms, digital tools like Canva and email, and other communication channels to enhance the visibility of these events and initiatives. This role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, an organized and reliable approach to event management, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

The position also carries important responsibilities related to compliance and campus security. As a designated "Responsible Employee" under Title IX regulations, the Engagement Specialist must promptly report any allegations of sexual misconduct or abuse. Moreover, as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), the individual must report any crimes or incidents they become aware of to the University Police Department. This role not only demands enthusiasm and adaptability but also a deep commitment to supporting student success within a safe and respectful campus environment.
