Job Description
Shelter House is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives of individuals who have been harmed by broken systems in our community. As a United Way agency, Shelter House focuses on providing compassionate support and innovative services to those in need. With a mission to empower and assist vulnerable populations, Shelter House operates through a collaborative, community-driven approach that brings together volunteers, donors, partners, and staff to make a tangible difference.
The organization values qualities such as organization, collaboration, patience, curiosity, humility, courage, a growth mindset, deep care for people, and a passion for positive change. These core values shape the work environment and guide the efforts in achieving the mission.
This full-time Development and Outreach Coordinator role is a vital position within Shelter House, reporting directly to the Director of Development & Communications. The position is designed for a people-oriented individual who excels at connecting with others in various contexts and is passionate about using their skills to enhance community engagement and fundraising outcomes. The coordinator will independently manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining attention to detail and organization.
The primary focus of this role is to implement strategies that maximize fundraising and outreach through community engagement, corporate and faith partnerships, and special events. Responsibilities include leading fundraising events from planning through sponsorship, cultivating donor relationships through direct appeals and campaigns, supporting event volunteers and committees, and coordinating community-driven fundraising efforts such as giveback and DIY events. Building outreach relationships with local organizations and faith groups to encourage donation drives and event participation also is a key component of the role.
In addition to event management, the Development and Outreach Coordinator will implement donor engagement strategies that encompass annual appeals, employee giving programs, and other initiatives. This involves designing development materials, nurturing donor relationships through recognition and communications, and expanding planned giving programs. Analytical skills are also important to identify prospects for increased giving through data review and donor records analysis.
Administrative support duties include website and social media management, donor stewardship programs such as creating correspondence and scheduling tours, maintaining marketing collateral, and assisting with donation processing to ensure data accuracy. The position requires flexibility with work hours including occasional evenings and weekends to accommodate event schedules.
Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and have experience using design tools like Canva along with skills in mail merge and spreadsheet functions. Strong interpersonal and communication abilities are essential, as is the capacity to self-manage tasks and handle multiple projects effectively. The role demands physical capabilities such as walking stairs, lifting up to 50 pounds, and sustaining periods of sitting, standing, and walking.
Shelter House fosters an inclusive and supportive workplace environment that encourages growth and professional development. The organization is committed to providing reasonable accommodations in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Interested applicants are encouraged to submit a resume, cover letter, writing samples, and design samples to demonstrate their qualifications and creativity.
By joining Shelter House as a Development and Outreach Coordinator, you will play a crucial part in advancing community-focused fundraising efforts and expanding outreach programs that directly impact vulnerable populations. Your work will contribute to building stronger partnerships, increasing donor engagement, and promoting awareness for the organization’s mission, ultimately helping to make the community a better place for all its members.
