Mortenson's Energy Storage Group is currently expanding and seeking dedicated Electrical Commissioning Engineers at both Level I and Level II to join their dynamic team. These positions are crucial to support electrical technical aspects during construction projects, particularly in energy storage systems, a rapidly growing and critical area in the renewable energy sector. This role offers 100% travel or rotation-based travel with locations including California, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, and other states within the U.S. Given the nature of these projects, the role demands strong communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

The Electrical Commissioning Engineer position involves ensuring that electrical systems are installed, tested, and functioning according to project specifications and standards. Engineers will work closely with cross-functional teams, including construction managers, contractors, and owners, to verify that all commissioning activities align with quality standards and project requirements. Responsibilities include reviewing owner project requirements, performing scope reviews, assisting in developing commissioning plans, executing system tests such as NETA, SCADA, controls, and operations verification, and documenting results through field reports and system manuals. The candidate will be expected to maintain a positive and professional attitude, actively listen and communicate across diverse teams, and embrace continuous improvement through feedback and collaborative problem-solving.

The position is split into two levels based on experience and qualifications. The Electrical Commissioning Engineer I requires a bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience, with at least one year of relevant commissioning or construction management experience. This level requires a fundamental understanding of commissioning processes, construction project management, and quality assurance. Meanwhile, the Electrical Commissioning Engineer II demands a bachelor’s degree specifically in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of three years of electrical construction management or electrical design experience. Preferred qualifications include utility experience, knowledge of electrical and safety codes, strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills, as well as the ability to influence and build strong relationships at all organizational levels.

Compensation varies by level, experience, and location, with the Electrical Commissioning Engineer I salary range between $80,900 and $109,300, and the Electrical Commissioning Engineer II salary range between $91,700 and $123,800, with some locations offering higher pay adjustments. Mortenson also offers an incentive plan for eligible employees.
