Job Description

Texas Performing Arts (TPA) is the professional arts presenting and producing program of The University of Texas at Austin. As one of the largest and most active university-based performing arts centers in the United States, TPA serves as a central hub for arts, culture, and entertainment in Austin. Operating iconic venues on the UT campus, including the prestigious Bass Concert Hall—Austin's largest theater—TPA offers a wide array of public programming. These programs feature Broadway in Austin, a carefully curated season of international dance, theater, and music performances, and presentations by national touring artists. As an integral part of UT's College of Fine Arts, TPA actively engages students across the university by providing them with creative and educational experiences in the arts.\n\nThe Emerging Arts Professional program at Texas Performing Arts presents a unique, season-long paid opportunity for individuals seeking hands-on experience in arts administration. The program is designed to support the growth and programming activities of TPA while cultivating critical job skills, field knowledge, and professional networks essential for advancing a career in the arts and entertainment industry. Participants in this fellowship receive an annual salary and participate in UT Austin's comprehensive benefits package, making the opportunity not only educational but also sustainable. This particular role is focused within the Event Management Team, which supports visiting artists and productions featured in Texas Performing Arts’ presenting portfolio. This portfolio includes significant events such as Broadway in Austin, a curated season of international dance, music, and theater, in addition to the Texas Welcomes series featuring touring concerts, comedy performances, and special attractions.\n\nIn this role, Emerging Arts Professionals will gain invaluable experience coordinating various aspects of live event production and artist hospitality, from smaller-scale events to large touring productions. Responsibilities include assisting with event planning and implementation, engaging in logistical support for artists (such as accommodations and transportation), and collaborating with cross-functional teams including production, guest services, ticketing, and marketing/communications. The program also emphasizes professional development through monthly educational meetings, developmental projects, networking opportunities, and participation in TPA-wide initiatives. Fellows help advance the organization’s mission by enhancing the professional and collaborative environment around artistic productions.\n\nThis position is scheduled for 40 hours per week and classified as non-exempt, with the earliest start date as soon as possible and an expected duration through May 31, 2027. The workplace is located at the UT Main Campus in Austin, Texas and requires flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends based on scheduled performances and events. The role offers an annual fixed salary of $42,000 ($3,500 per month) and includes typical benefits afforded to UT Austin employees. Candidates can expect a dynamic work environment that demands attention to detail, high levels of accountability, and professionalism in the face of real-time operational challenges.\n\nOverall, this opportunity is ideal for emerging professionals eager to launch or advance a career in arts administration and event management within a vibrant university-based arts presenting organization. The program offers a supportive, learner-centric atmosphere fostering growth through meaningful participation in high-profile arts events, making it a distinctive stepping stone within the arts sector.
