Job Description

Colorado State University (CSU) is a renowned public research university dedicated to advancing knowledge through world-class teaching, research, and service. Located in Fort Collins, Colorado, CSU is committed to fostering a collaborative and supportive environment where students, faculty, and staff thrive. The Colorado State University Veterinary Health System (CSU VTH) is an integral part of the university, providing expert veterinary services, supporting veterinary education and training, and leading innovative research initiatives that benefit animal health and welfare. CSU VTH serves as a leading veterinary teaching hospital and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities designed to enhance patient care, clinical education, and cutting-edge research efforts.

CSU's Emergency and Critical Care Services (ECCS) team, including the Emergency, Critical Care Unit, and Intermediate Care Unit, is preparing to move into a new 60,000 square foot, state-of-the-art expansion of the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital in late summer 2026. This expansion will feature open floor plans, dedicated nursing workstations, advanced monitoring and support care equipment, and comfort-focused patient and client care areas. This new facility will enable the ECCS to expand and elevate the delivery of vital emergency and critical care services to small animals and exotic patients.

The role of ECC Supervisor at the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital is essential in overseeing the day-to-day operations and clinical support teams across the Emergency/Urgent Care, Intermediate Care Unit, Critical Care Unit, and Isolation services. The supervisor will lead a veterinary technical team consisting of registered veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and hourly staff. The position plays a critical leadership role in coordinating clinical and educational activities, ensuring high standards of patient care, supporting recruitment and staff development initiatives, and collaborating closely with faculty, clinicians, students, and clients.

This full-time position offers an annual salary range of $60,000 to $72,000 and requires flexibility to meet the needs of a 24/7 clinical operation, including days, evenings, and weekends. The ECC Supervisor is responsible for supervising 10-12 FTE positions and handling responsibilities such as shift coordination, workflow management, performance evaluations, staffing decisions, budget and financial reporting, and client communication. The position requires interfacing with multiple stakeholders within a dynamic veterinary teaching hospital setting and demands strong communication and leadership skills to foster a cohesive work environment.

CSU is committed to fostering an inclusive workforce and providing accommodations to ensure equitable access throughout the recruitment and employment process. The veterinary health system values employees who demonstrate passion, collaboration, and a dedication to redefining possibilities in veterinary medicine and emergency care. Additionally, the university offers a comprehensive benefits package that supports work-life balance, professional growth, and well-being for its employees.

In summary, the ECC Supervisor at CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital will be a pivotal leader in one of the most advanced and growing emergency veterinary care programs in the region. This role offers an excellent opportunity for experienced veterinary professionals with leadership experience to shape the future of veterinary emergency and critical care services in a cutting-edge academic environment with strong community impact.
