The Nutrition Services/Kitchen Manager position at Arctic Light Elementary School plays a critical role in the daily operation of the school’s nutrition services. This role ensures the availability of high-quality, nutritious, and cost-effective meal programs to students, staff, parents, and community members. The position is a vital component in promoting healthy eating habits and maintaining food safety standards within the school setting. This is a 9-month position with a work day from 6:45 am to 1:15 pm, totaling 6.5 hours per day. The hourly wage for this role ranges from $19.19 to $21.46 depending on experience, classified under Grade 4A, with internal rates determined through the Education Support Staff Association (ESSA) negotiated agreement.

The Kitchen Manager is responsible for managing the operation of nutrition services, including supervision of staff, food preparation, and the use of commercial kitchen equipment such as steam tables, convection ovens, coolers, and freezers. This position requires a good understanding of food safety regulations, customer service skills, and the ability to maintain detailed records and confidentiality. The individual must also be able to pass the ServeSafe certification within the first 45 days of employment and maintain it as per Department of Environmental Conservation regulations. Moreover, the position requires a valid Alaska driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle, with the ability to gain access to military installations when necessary.
