The position of Elementary Food Service Manager within the Granite School District's Nutrition Services department presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to take charge of the daily operations of an elementary school’s serving kitchen, specifically at the Bates Food Service Center location. This role is classified as a Nutrition Services position and entails significant responsibilities in managing food preparation, service, sanitation, staff supervision, and compliance with federal and state regulations. The manager will work a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, supporting the school’s meal service operations throughout the school year (9 months, 183 days).
Starting pay for this position is $22.30 per hour for the 2026-27 school year. The role requires a high school diploma or GED as a minimum education level and mandates certification as a Food Safety Manager from a Utah Department of Health approved entity. Supervision and leadership skills are essential as the manager will direct hourly nutrition service employees, conduct training, and provide evaluation feedback. The manager will also handle inventory control, order food and supplies, ensure food portion controls, and maintain detailed records and documentation regarding meal preparations and food safety.
The Elementary Food Service Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all food service complies with school district policies as well as local, state, and federal regulations, particularly the USDA school meal program standards. This involves supervising meal production and serving, maintaining kitchen equipment in good working order, overseeing sanitation and hygiene, and ensuring the proper handling and storage of all food products. The manager must be detail-oriented and proactive in monitoring food safety procedures, managing special diets and allergy accommodations, and fostering positive relations with students, staff, parents, and district personnel.
Additional job functions include assisting with opening and closing the food service area, participating in deep cleaning activities or moving between food service locations within the district as needed. The role requires physical stamina, including standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in kitchen environments that may include exposure to varying temperatures. The manager must exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask under pressure while maintaining a cooperative and efficient team atmosphere.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Food Safety Manager certification from a Utah Department of Health approved entity
- Six months of job-related experience
- Previous supervisory experience preferred
- Knowledge and skills in the management and maintenance of an elementary school kitchen

Job Duties
- Supervises and coordinates the preparation of approved menus and recipes and serving meals according to established policies and/or procedures
- directs, assigns, and schedules staff

- observes and enforces practices of proper food safety and sanitation
- implements school meal menus as created by the central kitchen
- estimates and orders food, condiments, and supplies to meet meal projections and minimize waste
- receives and verifies quantity, quality, and specification of food, condiments, and supply orders
- ensures proper storage of orders
- ensures the quality and portion control of food served
- supervises and coordinates food, condiments, and supply inventories
- supervises and participates in food preparation and serving to students and school personnel
- supervises and/or performs lunch clerk tasks
- supervises food preparation, cooking and serving activities to ensure established policies and procedures and student needs are met
- ensures proper leftover use and documentation
- determines when equipment needs repairs
- checks equipment to ensure proper operating temperature and sanitation standards
- maintains special diet plan paperwork and coordinates special diet plans
- prepares and reviews a variety of records, inventories, logs, and reports

- supervises and participates with opening and closing of the Food Services areas
