Job Description

The Bellevue School District, located in the vibrant city of Bellevue, Washington, is recognized for its commitment to providing excellent education and fostering an inclusive community. Serving a diverse population of students, the district emphasizes equity, cultural competency, and the importance of creating a supportive environment where every student can thrive. With a broad range of programs and services designed to meet the varied needs of its community, Bellevue School District is dedicated to excellence not only in academics but also in the overall well-being of its students. The district values diversity and inclusion as core principles, striving to build a representative workforce that mirrors the cultural richness of its students and the larger international community it serves. This commitment is embedded in all its educational and operational efforts, promoting a respectful and collaborative workplace culture.

We are currently seeking an Elementary Cook Lead to join our Nutrition Services team. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that students receive nutritious, well-prepared meals in a safe and welcoming environment. The Elementary Cook Lead is responsible for skilled cooking duties, including food production, preparation, serving, and overseeing kitchen and cafeteria clean-up. This role also involves leading and mentoring kitchen assistants and students, ensuring that food quality and safety standards are consistently met. As part of a collaborative team, the Cook Lead contributes to menu planning, inventory control, and maintaining the high standards expected within the school district's food service program.

The role requires both technical culinary skills and the ability to manage resources and personnel effectively. The Cook Lead will prepare food items according to standard menus and recipes, assemble salads, sandwiches, desserts, and hot lunches, and ensure that all meals meet nutritional and safety standards. Additionally, the position may involve assisting in budget planning, ordering supplies such as produce and paper products, and maintaining accurate records related to food service operations. This is a part-time position with a weekly work schedule of approximately 31.25 hours over a 193-day annual assignment, with specific hours from Monday through Friday. Pay ranges from $26.59 to $29.54 per hour, reflecting the importance and skill required for this role.

Working as an Elementary Cook Lead at the Bellevue School District offers the opportunity to be part of a dedicated team that values cultural sensitivity and inclusiveness while supporting the health and nutrition of young students. This position also provides a chance to develop leadership skills within a food production setting and contribute positively to the daily lives of children in the community. With benefits that include medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and life insurance eligibility based on hours worked, as well as retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems, this role provides both meaningful work and a solid benefits package. We welcome applicants who are passionate about student nutrition, committed to equity, and eager to make a difference in the school environment.
