The Electro-Mechanical Technician Level 2 position at Dematic's Mobile, Alabama site is a pivotal role that involves day-to-day troubleshooting, preventative and predictive maintenance of material handling equipment (MHE). This junior-level role is designed for technicians who provide support across all installed equipment, ensuring seamless operational continuity. The role operates on the first shift, from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with on-call responsibilities when needed. With a base pay range between $24.00 and $29.50 per hour, compensation is influenced by factors such as experience, education, and skill level.

In this role, technicians are expected to perform routine repairs, maintenance, and component adjustments such as belt tracking, lubrication, and replacement tasks to extend the life cycle and reliability of the equipment. They perform scheduled preventative maintenance routines to avoid unexpected breakdowns, meticulously document maintenance activities, and close work orders within the asset management system to keep the technical team updated with accurate labor and parts usage records. Additionally, these technicians troubleshoot minor conveyance issues and leverage available resources to solve them effectively. They also play a crucial role in managing spare parts inventory, supervising the readiness and availability of critical components.

Beyond technical tasks, the Electro-Mechanical Technician Level 2 is responsible for responding promptly to semi-complex service calls, rectifying equipment failures, and faults to minimize downtime. Identifying problems as they arise, taking immediate corrective actions, and maintaining positive working relationships across all organizational levels are essential soft skills for this position. This role requires physical stamina and dexterity, as it involves frequent bending, lifting up to 50 pounds consistently, and pushing or pulling wheeled dollies loaded with products up to 100 pounds. Safety awareness is paramount, with the need to climb ladders and navigate various working conditions including confined spaces, dust, fumes, varying temperatures, and uneven or wet flooring.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience required
  • Able to lift and move material up to 50 pounds each
  • Regular bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching both below the waist and above the head
  • Occasionally push and pull wheeled dollies loaded with products up to 100 pounds
  • Have functional dexterity in both hands and wrists
  • Able to climb ladders and gangways safely and without limitation
  • Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes or odors, hot or cold temperatures, inside or outside noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces
  • Must be able to stand or walk for up to 10-12 hours
  • Flexibility in covering multiple shifts and holiday hours as the need arises

Job Duties

  • Repair and maintenance of material handling equipment, including belt tracking, component adjustment or replacement, component lubrication
  • Complete preventative maintenance routines, documentation, and procedures
  • Build and close work orders into the asset management system with appropriate data, including labor hours, equipment maintenance, and parts used
  • Troubleshoot basic conveyance problems and understand the resources to resolve them
  • Locate and supervise spare parts from inventory
  • Respond to semi-complex service calls and rectify equipment failures and faults
  • Identify problems as they occur and take appropriate steps to address them
