Simmer Crane is currently looking to hire an Electrical Field Technician, a pivotal role responsible for the troubleshooting, repair, installation, and maintenance of overhead crane systems and associated equipment at customer facilities. These facilities include diverse heavy industrial settings such as steel mills, automotive manufacturing plants, foundries, large machine builders, and steel processing centers. This full-time position offers competitive hourly wages ranging from $30.00 to $35.00, along with comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, and vision insurance, company-paid life insurance and disability coverage, and a 401(k) plan with company matching. The Electrical Field Technician works independently or as a member of a crew to identify electrical and mechanical issues affecting overhead crane systems. This role involves hands-on electrical troubleshooting, mechanical repair, and modifications, with an emphasis on safety compliance, including OSHA guidance and NFPA 70E Arc Flash Protection standards. Technicians document hours worked, services performed, repair details, and generate service acknowledgements using computer systems. They collaborate closely with customers and engineering teams to ensure timely and effective solutions.

Ideal candidates have a minimum of three years of industrial maintenance, manufacturing, construction, crane service, or related experience. Equivalent military experience is also considered. A strong mechanical aptitude, ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics, and proficiency in motor control systems for AC or DC power are essential. Experience may include work as crane technicians, millwrights, ironworkers, industrial electricians, or maintenance technicians. Candidates should be comfortable with a work environment that involves flexible hours, travel including overnight stays, working at heights or confined spaces, and lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance for heavier loads.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

  • welding experience preferred
  • experience as crane technician millwright ironworker industrial electrician maintenance technician or similar trade preferred

  • strong mechanical aptitude with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office
  • strong communication and customer service skills
  • valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets company standards
  • willingness and ability to travel including overnight travel
  • ability to work flexible hours including overtime and emergency calls
  • ability to safely work at heights confined spaces and in varying conditions
  • ability to lift 50 pounds with assistance for heavier loads

Job Duties

  • Electrical troubleshooting repairing installing and modifying overhead crane systems
  • perform maintenance and repairs on equipment at customer owned facilities such as steel mills auto manufacturing plants foundries large machine builders and steel processing facilities
  • work independently or as part of a crew to diagnose electrical and mechanical problems with equipment in heavy industrial manufacturing facilities
  • identify needed parts repair procedures communicate with the customer interface with our engineering department and perform the repair
  • document hours services performed service acknowledgements and work with computers
  • perform safety inspections in compliance with OSHA guidelines
  • ensure compliance with NFPA 70E Arc Flash Protection requirements
