Job Description
Allen County Public Library stands as a beacon of learning, discovery, and community engagement in northeast Indiana. Known for its diverse collections, state-of-the-art facilities, and commitment to public service, the library plays a critical role in connecting residents with ideas, resources, and each other. Among its most notable assets is the Rolland Center for Lincoln Research, home to one of the nation’s premier collections dedicated to Abraham Lincoln and American history. The center attracts scholars, students, and history enthusiasts alike, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the past through its extensive archives, artifacts, and educational programs.
The Rolland Center for Lincoln Research is currently seeking an Educational Outreach Coordinator to join its team. This role is integral to expanding the center's reach and impact by building meaningful relationships with K-12 schools across Allen County and neighboring communities. The position is designed for an experienced educator with a passion for history who can creatively bring the stories, artifacts, and primary sources of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection to life for a broad audience. This full-time role offers a unique opportunity to influence history education beyond the traditional classroom setting, inspiring students and educators with innovative programming and hands-on learning experiences.
As the Educational Outreach Coordinator, you will be responsible for designing engaging lesson plans and curriculum materials that align with educational standards and meet the needs of diverse learners. You will also develop primary source guides, lead both in-person and virtual tours of the Rolland Center, and create dynamic exhibits and presentations that illuminate key historical themes such as Abraham Lincoln's life and legacy, the Civil War, and broader aspects of American history. Your work will encourage inquiry, critical thinking, and a deep appreciation for historical discovery among participants.
The role requires excellent communication and organizational skills as you will collaborate closely with librarians, special collections staff, educators, and community partners to continually enhance the educational programs. You will also provide research assistance and deliver outstanding service to visitors of the Rolland Center, positioning the library as a vital resource for history education in the region.
This position also underscores the library’s mission-driven culture, offering a collaborative workplace environment with professional development opportunities and strong institutional support. Candidates are expected to obtain Indiana Public Librarian Certification within three years of hire and hold a valid driver’s license.
If you are passionate about history, education, and public service and ready to inspire the next generation of historians through an innovative and impactful role, Allen County Public Library invites you to join the Rolland Center for Lincoln Research as their Educational Outreach Coordinator. This is an exciting chance to contribute to a landmark cultural institution and help shape how history is taught and experienced throughout the region.
