Job Description
Renown Health is a prominent not-for-profit academic health system serving northern Nevada, Lake Tahoe, and northeast California. As the region's first locally governed health system, Renown Health is dedicated to improving health and lives through exceptional care, comprehensive education and training, and innovative research. Partnering with the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, Renown supports the academic and clinical advancement of healthcare professionals and provides the community with access to cutting-edge medical treatments and technologies. With a workforce exceeding 8,000 employees, Renown offers a supportive and rewarding work environment in the beautiful Reno-Tahoe area. The organization prioritizes putting people first, which has earned it recognition such as Becker's Healthcare Top Places to Work in Healthcare (2026) and Ragan Communications' Best Employee Experience Award (2024).
Renown Health is home to northern Nevada’s first and only comprehensive extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) program. ECMO is an advanced life support technology that provides cardiac and respiratory support for patients whose heart and lungs are unable to function adequately. The ECMO program at Renown is highly specialized and operates with expert clinical staff and advanced equipment, helping save lives when seconds matter. The ECMO Coordinator position at Renown Health plays a pivotal role in the operation and oversight of this critical care program. This role is responsible for the day-to-day management of the ECMO program, including clinical training, orientation, competency establishment, and policy development under the guidance of the ECMO medical director.
The ECMO Coordinator serves as both a clinical expert and program manager, ensuring patients receive optimal care in collaboration with physicians, surgeons, and multidisciplinary teams. Key responsibilities include maintaining ECMO equipment and supplies, coordinating ECMO training and education programs, managing staffing schedules, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards. This position also requires clinical coverage as an ECMO Specialist when necessary and involves active participation in ECMO procedures such as cannulations and patient transport. The role demands a high level of expertise in ECMO therapy, circuit management, anticoagulation protocols, patient monitoring, and emergency response capabilities. The coordinator supports quality improvement initiatives and collaborates extensively with other ECMO centers to stay current with evolving practices and technologies.
As a full-time position based at Renown Health, the ECMO Coordinator is integral to the success and growth of the ECMO program, impacting the health outcomes of critically ill patients while fostering a culture of excellence and continuous professional development. Benefits offered include comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with matching, paid time off, employee assistance programs, professional development assistance, tuition reimbursement, and more. This is an in-person role working typical daytime hours in a dynamic healthcare environment dedicated to innovation and exceptional patient care.
