The Echo Sonographer I position within the Smidt Heart Institute represents an entry-level role focused on delivering high-quality echocardiographic imaging under physician guidance. As an Echo Sonographer I, you will perform basic echocardiographic imaging and related procedures in both inpatient and outpatient settings, assisting physicians in diagnosing blood flow and heart conditions. This position offers a structured mentorship program to build competence in using ultrasound technologies and adhering to imaging protocols aligned with accreditation standards. Beyond imaging, the role involves ensuring patient safety, preparing examination rooms and equipment, and cooperating with interdisciplinary teams for comprehensive patient care. The role emphasizes continual learning and adaptation, with responsibilities extending to preliminary interpretation of diagnostic studies and generating reports to assist physicians in treatment planning. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program
  • BLS certification required
  • RDCS or RCS preferred or willing to obtain within one year
  • Preferably minimum one year experience as cardiac sonographer
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Strong attention to detail and patient care
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and protocols

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) preferred or willing to obtain within one year
  • Minimum one year experience as a cardiac sonographer preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to follow safety and procedural protocols
  • Competency in using ultrasound diagnostic equipment
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team

Job Duties

  • Assist physicians in performing basic echocardiographic imaging and other procedures
  • Perform ultrasound imaging technologies for cardiac patients in inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Detect issues related to blood flow and heart ailments and escalate to physicians
  • Receive mentorship until competent with ultrasound equipment and imaging protocols
  • Maintain a safe patient environment and prepare equipment for procedures
  • Perform basic echocardiographic imaging procedures using approved protocols
  • Provide preliminary interpretation of 2D/Doppler studies and create reports
  • Educate patients and families on procedures and preparation
  • Assist physicians during pericardiocentesis imaging
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
  • Accurately enter patient data into ultrasound equipment
  • Report critical findings promptly to physicians
  • Review and maintain equipment operation and cleanliness
  • Ensure sterile protocols and radiation safety
  • Provide recommendations to improve lab operation and diagnostic quality
