The Echo Sonographer I role at the Smidt Heart Institute offers professionals an entry-level opportunity to contribute directly to this prestigious institution’s mission. This position involves supporting physicians in performing basic echocardiographic imaging and related procedures within inpatient and outpatient settings. Echo Sonographer I is a vital part of the cardiovascular care team, responsible for operating ultrasound technologies to assist in identifying cardiac conditions and supporting diagnosis and treatment planning.

Under mentorship, Echo Sonographers develop competency in the use of advanced ultrasound equipment and imaging protocols essential for quality patient assessments. Duties include conducting preliminary interpretations of echocardiographic studies while maintaining strict adherence to safety, accuracy, and departmental standards. This role demands a commitment to patient safety, meticulous preparation of imaging rooms and equipment, and the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, residents, and clinicians.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program
  • BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Willingness to obtain RDCS or RCS certification within one year if not already certified
  • Minimum one year of cardiac sonography experience preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams
  • Commitment to patient safety and strict adherence to protocols

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program
  • BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • RDCS or RCS certification preferred or willingness to obtain within one year
  • Minimum one year experience as cardiac sonographer preferred
  • Experience and skills aligned for Echo Sonographer I level

Job Duties

  • Assist physicians in performing basic echocardiographic imaging and procedures
  • Perform ultrasound imaging technologies for cardiac patients in inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Detect issues related to blood flow and heart ailments and escalate to physicians
  • Receive mentorship to achieve competency in ultrasound equipment and imaging protocols
  • Maintain safe patient environment and ensure room and equipment are prepared
  • Perform preliminary interpretation of 2D/Doppler studies and create reports
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and accurately enter patient data into ultrasound equipment
