Job Description
Austin Community College (ACC) is a prominent public two-year community college located in the state of Texas. Serving a diverse and multicultural population of approximately 41,000 credit students each Fall and Spring semester, ACC is dedicated to providing affordable access to higher education and workforce training. Its mission embraces both traditional and distance learning modes and includes offering applied baccalaureate degrees that align with community needs and development. The institution champions intellectual curiosity, innovative teaching, equitable educational opportunities, and student success — especially for underserved populations such as first-generation college students and low-income students. ACC employees are required to maintain a domicile in Texas throughout their employment, reflecting their commitment to serving the local community fully.
The role in question is a Line Cook position within ACC's teaching restaurant, Eatery '73, and the Grab & Go food service. This hourly role, paying $23.00 per hour for up to 19 hours weekly, is designed for individuals who have a passion for quality food preparation and teamwork. The Line Cook at ACC will be an essential part of the culinary operations, responsible for preparing, cooking, and plating dishes while maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. This role requires adherence to strict safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures in line with the policies of the ACC Culinary Department.
An ideal candidate is not only experienced in a professional kitchen but also values working in a respectful, positive, and collaborative atmosphere. The Line Cook should possess strong attention to detail, be familiar with kitchen mise en place standards, and demonstrate a thorough understanding of all menu ingredients and preparations. They must be capable of following both written and verbal instructions accurately and maintaining clear communication with the Executive Chef and colleagues, thus contributing to a professionally run service.
This position acknowledges that it is not limited to listed duties and may include additional related tasks to meet the restaurant's evolving needs. Candidates will be part of an inclusive team dedicated to excellence in cooking, timing, plate assembly, and communication during service periods, fostering a learning environment that supports both culinary students and customers. ACC's culture promotes community engagement and equitable access, making it an ideal place for those who want to make a tangible impact in both education and food service industries.
