Job Description
TeachStart is an innovative organization dedicated to addressing the ongoing teacher shortage by providing an accessible and supportive pathway for individuals aspiring to become educators. Their mission centers around creating economic opportunity for fellows while elevating educational standards through high-quality training and support. TeachStart operates as a facilitator, offering an earn-and-learn Fellowship where aspiring teachers can gain meaningful teaching experience while completing their credentialing requirements. By providing full-time wages and comprehensive benefits during the training period, TeachStart removes the common financial barriers that often deter potential educators from pursuing a teaching career.
TeachStart is a unique career accelerator program designed to guide aspiring teachers towards full-time lead teaching positions in less than one year. The Fellowship experience begins with foundational training, providing fellows with essential skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the classroom. Fellows then work as substitute teachers while completing required credentials, offering them real-world teaching exposure supported by continuous coaching and mentorship. TeachStart also helps cover upfront costs related to becoming a substitute teacher and offers discounted fees on coursework through its credentialing partner, making the path to licensure more financially feasible. Throughout the program, fellows receive expert coaching and support to build confidence and competence as educators. The ultimate goal is to transition fellows into full-time lead teacher roles upon successful program completion.
This opportunity is perfect for individuals passionate about making a meaningful difference in education but who might be daunted by the expenses and complex bureaucracy traditionally associated with becoming a teacher. By providing a structured, earn-and-learn model, TeachStart enables fellows to earn a sustainable wage of approximately $48,000 annually from day one, along with full health, dental, and vision benefits, paid time off, flexible scheduling, and professional development assistance. This role is full-time and requires in-person participation, offering a stable work environment that supports both professional growth and personal well-being.
TeachStart is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer, celebrating diversity and fostering an inclusive work culture where all employees feel valued and empowered. The organization is committed to offering a hands-on, mentorship-driven training experience designed to overcome traditional barriers and help aspiring teachers thrive in their careers. Physical requirements include sitting, standing, walking, and safely assisting students by lifting up to 30 pounds, demonstrating the hands-on nature of the teaching role. This Fellowship is a pivotal step for those eager to launch a rewarding career in education with comprehensive support from day one.
