Job Description
Din Tai Fung (DTF) is a renowned, family-owned restaurant brand with a legacy dating back to 1972. Celebrated worldwide, the restaurant has gained international fame for its iconic Xiao Long Bao, a delicacy that exemplifies the brand's commitment to quality, authentic flavors, and exceptional hospitality. With over 165 locations spanning 13 countries, including 20 in North America, Din Tai Fung distinguishes itself in the culinary world by offering an elevated yet warmly inviting cultural dining experience that delights guests for any occasion. The brand is recognized by Michelin and is highly regarded for its meticulous attention to detail, consistent excellence, and dedication to guest satisfaction.
The Dumpling Prep / Trainee position at Din Tai Fung offers a unique opportunity to be part of the heart of the kitchen operation. This role is perfect for individuals looking to immerse themselves in the culinary arts, specifically in the preparation of one of the restaurant’s signature dishes—the dumpling. As a Dumpling Prep / Trainee, you will engage in a hands-on training program designed to build your skills from the ground up. The role includes preparing, assembling, folding, and steaming dumplings, ensuring that each dumpling meets the high standards that Din Tai Fung is famous for. This position not only offers a vital role in the kitchen team but also allows you to actively contribute to the overall dining experience of the guests.
The job is stationed in a show kitchen environment where the process of making dumplings is as much a part of the guest experience as the dining itself, adding a layer of visibility and pride to the role. Responsibilities include measuring and cutting dough, rolling out delicate skins, stuffing, sealing dumplings with precision, arranging them for steaming, and clearly labeling meat and allergen indicators. Additionally, you will maintain the cleanliness and organization of the dumpling prep area and comply with food safety and operational procedures. Participation in regular staff and dumpling meetings ensures continuous learning and professional development. The position is located at the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, CA, and offers competitive pay starting at $22.50 per hour.
Joining Din Tai Fung means becoming part of a community that values growth, excellence, and teamwork. The company is committed to promoting from within and supports its team members with a range of benefits and programs including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with company match, employee discounts, and more. The Dumpling Prep / Trainee role is ideal for motivated individuals excited about culinary craftsmanship and eager to grow their career within a Michelin-recognized restaurant environment. This is a standing position requiring stamina, a positive attitude, and a readiness to learn and adapt within a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
