Job Description

The position open is for the role of Dual Property Chief Engineer, situated in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This critical leadership role involves overseeing the engineering and facilities management for two adjacent hotels: the Courtyard by Marriott Baton Rouge and the Residence Inn Baton Rouge. The Chief Engineer will be responsible for maintaining the physical integrity and safety compliance of both properties, while managing the engineering teams that uphold the daily mechanical operations. The role requires a proactive approach to preventive maintenance, vendor relationship management, budget administration, and for being the primary contact for all facility-related issues.

As a hands-on leader, the Chief Engineer must possess strong technical skills and people management abilities to effectively coordinate maintenance of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety, and building envelope systems. They ensure emergency and life safety equipment meet regulatory standards, address guest and common area maintenance needs swiftly, and oversee capital improvements and renovations. Compliance with OSHA, ADA, EPA, and local codes is a major aspect of this job, including maintaining permits, inspection records, and supporting a culture of safety and accountability.

The successful candidate will lead recruitment, hiring, training, and development of the engineering teams, foster morale aligned with PAH values, and handle departmental scheduling. Financially, they will manage budgets, contracts, and support sustainability initiatives. A deep knowledge of regulatory compliance and technical proficiency in building systems are essential, along with a valid Louisiana driver’s license.

This role demands the ability to physically manage operations across two hotel locations on site, with necessary mobility throughout the day. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, maintain professional appearance and safety standards, and availability for on-call emergencies round out the comprehensive responsibilities. Job Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of progressive facilities or engineering management experience in a hotel or related hospitality setting
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations, and general building maintenance
  • Stationary Engineer's license or applicable certification if required by local code
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, equipment manuals, and technical specifications
  • Solid understanding of regulatory compliance applicable to hotel facilities including OSHA, ADA, and local codes
  • Valid driver's license for the state of Louisiana

Job Qualifications

  • EPA 608 Refrigerant Certification or other trade certifications preferred

Job Duties

  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance program across both properties
  • Oversee maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety, and building systems
  • Ensure emergency equipment is inspected, tested, and certified per code
  • Respond promptly to facility alarms and take corrective actions
  • Complete guest room and common area maintenance requests professionally and timely
  • Maintain sound condition of property and equipment
  • Assist with special projects, capital improvements, and renovations
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations including OSHA, ADA, and EPA
  • Maintain permits, inspection records, and certifications
  • Lead and participate in safety committees and promote safety culture
  • Guarantee ADA compliance in accessible areas
  • Identify and mitigate environmental, health, and safety risks
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and develop engineering staff
  • Create and post engineering schedules
  • Train staff on customer service, safety, brand standards, and loss prevention
  • Conduct performance evaluations and encourage career growth
  • Foster team culture aligned with company values
  • Develop and manage engineering budget and monitor expenditures
  • Prepare financial forecasts and participate in profit/loss meetings
  • Manage vendor contracts including service agreements and warranties
  • Address maintenance-related guest and planner feedback
  • Support energy conservation and sustainability programs
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and regulatory filings
