As a Residential Caregiver at Easter Seals Southern California, you will play a vital role in supporting residents with disabilities living in a residential facility. This full-time position offers a wage of $20 per hour, reflecting the importance and responsibility of the caregiving role. The primary responsibilities include assisting with personal care, administering medication, and helping residents develop essential living skills in accordance with their Individual Program Plan (IPP) and Individual Support Plan (ISP).

In this role, you will help improve the quality of life of residents by supporting daily routines such as eating, hygiene, and bedtime preparation. You will also assist with meal preparation and dietary compliance, including specialized feeding methods like G-tube feeding. Transportation duties involve driving residents to medical appointments and other outings, ensuring their safety and comfort.

The position requires close attention to detail, as you will be responsible for completing daily reports and documentation. Compliance with health and safety standards is critical; you must maintain certifications in CPR, CPI, and First Aid, and meet the organization's requirements for criminal record clearance and vehicle safety. Physical stamina is essential for this role, as it involves lifting up to 70 pounds, standing or walking for extended periods, and providing mobility assistance to residents.

Job Requirements

  • Typically requires high school diploma
  • DSP-I and DSP-II Certification required
  • Valid CPR, CPI, and First Aid certifications required
  • 1-2 years experience or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing
  • Ability to interpret and carry out instructions
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment and decision-making
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality
  • Ability to pass medical examination and tuberculosis test
  • Ability to obtain and maintain criminal record and fingerprint clearance
  • Ability to travel locally with appropriate vehicle
  • Maintain valid driver's license, auto insurance, and vehicle registration
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds repeatedly
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel for extended periods
  • Ability to push/pull wheelchairs on various terrain

Job Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of training and education

  • Ability to provide personal care and transfer non-weight bearing individuals
  • Physical ability to lift up to 70 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and push/pull wheelchairs on various terrains

Job Duties

  • Conduct daily activities to assist in the development of living skills consistent with residents' IPP and ISP goals
  • Assist in administration and monitoring of medications including suppositories
  • Provide personal care including eating assistance, personal hygiene, showering, restroom help, and bedtime preparation
  • Assist in care and cleaning of the residential home including laundering and ironing residents' clothing
  • Assist with or prepare meals in compliance with dietary restrictions and assist with G-tube feeding
  • Transport individuals to healthcare appointments and other locations
  • Complete all necessary daily reports and documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned
