Job Description

The Salvation Army is a globally recognized international movement and an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Rooted firmly in its foundational message based on the Bible, the Salvation Army's core ministry is driven by the love of God and a deep commitment to serving humanity. Its mission is clear and unwavering: to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs impartially, without discrimination of any kind. This organization has a rich history of humanitarian service and advocacy, operating numerous programs assisting vulnerable communities with food, shelter, and emergency disaster services, among other supports. With a presence in communities around the world, The Salvation Army consistently strives to embody compassion, service, and spiritual outreach, impacting millions of lives through its extensive network of services and volunteers.

Within this transformative organization, the Driver/Warehouse Worker role is vital to the operational backbone of the local Family Services department. This position is responsible for the logistical management of donations, which includes driving to pick up food and other necessities from partner agencies, sorting donations, properly storing them, and ensuring they are well organized and accessible. The driver/warehouse worker acts as a first point of contact for clients seeking assistance, answering calls, greeting in person, and conducting initial assessments to understand and address client needs. This role also entails involvement in weekly food distribution events, maintaining vehicles, keeping detailed records in specialized Salvation Army software such as WellSky, and performing general office work. The position requires physical stamina, organizational skills, and a compassionate approach when interacting with clients, volunteers, and community representatives.

The ideal candidate for this role will be someone who can work efficiently both independently and collaboratively, managing multiple tasks with maturity and good judgment. They will be pivotal in maintaining the smooth flow of donations and services that directly benefit clients. This full-time position demands a valid California driver's license, the ability to pass background checks, and the physical capability to lift up to 75 pounds, navigate varied environments, and handle administrative data entry accurately. Working conditions require engagement in physical activity like walking, bending, squatting, and climbing, which means the driver/warehouse worker should be physically fit and able to manage the daily demands of this dynamic role.

Joining The Salvation Army as a Driver/Warehouse Worker is more than a job; it is an opportunity to contribute to a respected humanitarian cause and support a community-focused mission that changes lives daily. It offers meaningful work with direct community impact, where every action contributes to the welfare and dignity of those in need.
