The role of a Tractor Trailer Driver at CEMEX is pivotal in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of building materials to various destinations including job sites, company properties, and customer locations. This full-time position emphasizes adherence to safety regulations set forth by DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and MSHA, with a strong focus on maintaining customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. The driver is responsible for safely operating tractor-trailer combinations, verifying delivery instructions, ensuring proper loading and unloading of products, and performing necessary vehicle inspections. The role demands physical endurance and attention to detail in maintaining equipment cleanliness, personal appearance, and readiness to conduct minor roadside repairs if needed. Communication and teamwork with dispatchers, supervisors, and customers are essential to successfully fulfill job duties. Moreover, the role requires the driver to have a comprehensive understanding of local traffic routes and the ability to manage time effectively through 15-minute startups and 25-minute shutdowns. Working conditions include exposure to extreme weather and noise levels, necessitating the use of protective equipment. Candidates must meet physical demands such as lifting heavy objects and passing DOT physicals including hearing tests and drug/alcohol screenings to ensure safety in this physically intensive occupation.

Job Requirements

  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL Class A)
  • Minimum of 1-year experience as a CDL driver
  • No DUI or DWI in the last 5 years
  • Acceptable CSA score with no more than 3 moving violations in the past 7 years
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Ability to use various forms of technology
  • Must pass DOT physical including hearing test and drug/alcohol screen
  • Ability to exert physical effort including lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Willingness to work outdoors in extreme conditions and wear safety protective equipment

Job Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL Class A)
  • Must have a minimum of 1-year experience as a CDL driver
  • MVR - No DUI’s or DWI’s in the last 5 years
  • Acceptable CSA score - no more than 3 moving violations in the previous 7 years
  • Be able to read, write, and speak English
  • High school diploma/GED preferred
  • Bilingual a plus
  • Able to use a variety of technology

Job Duties

  • Safely drive truck to and from destination applying knowledge of DOT driving regulations and area roads
  • Check loads to ensure product is being hauled in an appropriate and safe manner
  • Verify directions with plant personnel before leaving the plant to ensure delivery to the correct customer and job site
  • Strive to meet customer expectations without exception and achieve highly positive customer satisfaction survey results consistent with strategic objectives
  • Develop extensive working relationships with customers, both external and internal, in order to maximize opportunities for CEMEX and to ensure customer needs are addressed
  • Keep equipment in acceptable condition of cleanliness using approved cleaning materials and supplies
  • Maintain personal appearance in neat and clean manner
  • Maintain contact with supervisor/dispatch to receive and transmit delivery instructions
  • Assist other company employees as needed
  • Complete pre and post-trip inspections on truck equipment and supplies, such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil and water
  • 15 minute Start-Up
  • 25 minutes Shut-Down
  • May perform roadside repairs, such as installing light bulbs, etc.
  • Maintain good working knowledge of the traffic routes of the city
  • Must be able to take orders, instructions, and guidance from supervisors and management
  • Cooperate and promote a team concept between himself and all other company employees, as well as all CEMEX's customers
  • Adhere to all CEMEX, DOT, FMCSA, OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations at all times
  • Meet or exceed company safety standards
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned
