McLane's success is underpinned by strong and secure client relationships along with a comprehensive approach to employee support, making it a top choice for individuals seeking long-lasting careers in the transportation and logistics field.
The Driver Trainee role at McLane is designed to provide foundational training and hands-on experience to prepare participants for a rewarding driving career. During the training period, Driver Trainees will learn the essential functions of the job including the distribution of products to various customer locations while gaining exposure to warehouse and operational tasks. This role emphasizes safety compliance, operational knowledge, and customer service skills, offering trainees the opportunity to develop adeptness in handling tractor-trailers and understanding commercial driving regulations.
Driver Trainees are compensated at a competitive pay rate starting at $24.25 per hour during training, with the potential to earn between $75,000 and $110,000 annually once fully trained. The company supports its employees with a comprehensive benefits package from day one including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave accrual, a 401(k) profit sharing plan, and additional perks such as pet insurance, employee assistance programs, and tuition reimbursement.
Working within regional team routes, Driver Trainees receive hands-on instruction from experienced Driver Trainers who guide them in mastering skills such as safely maneuvering tractor-trailers, conducting pre- and post-trip inspections, maintaining accurate driver logs, and engaging effectively with customers and teammates. The role also includes using technology tools like the Driver Delivery Handheld device and PeopleNet systems to document deliveries and maintain compliance.
Applicants are expected to be safety-focused, reliable, adaptable, and dedicated to the craft, promoting a culture of excellence and customer satisfaction. McLane values diversity and inclusion, welcoming candidates from all backgrounds, and adheres to equal employment opportunity policies. Candidates may be subject to background checks and drug screening in compliance with applicable laws.
