McLane is currently looking for Driver Trainee Component team members who are passionate about developing their careers in commercial driving. This role is designed for individuals holding a Class A CDL who are interested in learning the essential functions of a professional driver while gaining hands-on experience in warehouse and operational duties. The Driver Trainee will work closely with experienced Driver Trainers, gaining knowledge of safe driving practices, proper vehicle handling, and compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. The Driver Trainee Component position offers a competitive pay rate of $26.00 per hour during training, with earning potential increasing to $75,000 to $80,000 annually after successful completion of training. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Possess a valid Class A CDL
- Minimum age of 21 years
- Meet McLane Transfer and Promotion Policy eligibility
- Ability and willingness to handle select, load, unload and deliver products
- Ability to read and comprehend job-related documents and perform basic math
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to safely operate tractor-trailer and related equipment
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding English at a level necessary for safety and operations
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Possess a Class A CDL
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Meet eligibility requirements in the McLane Transfer and Promotion Policy
- Ability and willingness to select, load, unload and/or deliver all products ordered by McLane customers
- Read and comprehend labels, instructions, and bills of lading
- Perform mathematical calculations to verify product quantities
- Communicate effectively with customers, management, and teammates
- Safely drive tractor-trailer and use two-wheeled dolly, ramp, and PeopleNet devices
- Ability to read, write, and understand English sufficiently to perform job-related tasks safely and effectively
Job Duties
- Maneuver tractor into position to attach trailer and handle lines to secure
- Operate truck safely in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies
- Inspect tractor-trailer equipment for defects pre/post trip and submit DOT inspection report
- Operate Driver Delivery Handheld (DDH), document delivery receipts/product temperatures and exceptions, and inspect trailer to ensure secure and undamaged product transport
- Ride and train with Driver Trainer to various destinations, learning commercial driving regulations and observing driving skills
- Maintain driver log (manual or PeopleNet) according to DOT regulations, documenting delivery receipt, product temperatures, and exceptions
- Assist the Driver in unloading trailer and delivering product into customer premises
- Provide customer service including on-time delivery of undamaged product, handling product returns, and issuing valid customer credits
- Perform other duties as assigned
