Job Description

The Salvation Army is a globally recognized Christian organization dedicated to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and addressing human needs without discrimination. Known for its evangelical mission and commitment to service, The Salvation Army operates a wide range of programs aimed at supporting communities in need. This temporary and seasonal position is part of their Family Meals of Hope Program, which plays a crucial role in ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to nutritious meals during the summer months. The organization is deeply rooted in Christian values, emphasizing love, respect, and compassion while providing services to all individuals regardless of background.

This role involves providing mobile feeding services by operating a food truck that delivers meals to distribution sites as part of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). The position runs Monday through Friday from 4:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and pays $23.00 per hour. It is classified as a temporary or seasonal job, effective from May 26, 2026, through July 31, 2026. The candidate will be responsible for driving the food truck, ensuring the safe loading and unloading of supplies, and preparing the truck at each distribution site to serve meals efficiently. Beyond transportation, the role demands excellent customer service skills, requiring active engagement with program participants and volunteers while enforcing program guidelines.

Additionally, the role includes documentation duties such as accurate record-keeping for daily pick-up logs, mileage logs, safety checklists, and driver reports. Keeping the vehicle clean and in optimal working order following stringent food safety protocols is also a vital part of this position. The Salvation Army expects all employees to uphold its religious mission and values, reflecting dedication not only to job responsibilities but also to the broader mission of the organization.

Candidates must meet specific requirements including having a valid driver’s license, being over 21 years old, and successfully passing background checks and training such as the Safe from Harm program. The physical demands of the job are significant, expecting employees to stand and move 90% of the time and handle loads up to 50 pounds regularly. Working conditions may include exposure to various environmental factors such as heat, cold, and moving mechanical parts, requiring individuals who are resilient and safety-conscious.

This opportunity is ideal for individuals committed to making a difference through direct community service while working with a respected organization. The Salvation Army encourages diverse applicants including veterans, individuals with disabilities, those impacted by the justice system, and candidates without a college degree. This comprehensive role offers the chance to contribute meaningfully while developing skills in logistics, customer service, and food safety compliance within a supportive and mission-driven environment.
