Job Description

McLane is a longstanding industry leader in the distribution sector, having established itself over 130 years ago since 1894. With a vast nationwide network of team members, McLane specializes in supplying and moving goods for America’s favorite brands across the restaurant, retail, and e-commerce industries. The company prides itself on its reliability, dedication to safety, and an unwavering commitment to its clients, which has been fundamental to its sustained success and reputation in the market. The organization remains forward-thinking by embracing the latest technologies, emphasizing continuous team member training, and cultivating a people-centered workplace culture that values every employee's contribution. This approach ensures that McLane not only meets but exceeds the evolving needs of its clients and supports the professional growth and well-being of its employees. McLane is committed to an inclusive recruitment process, providing equal opportunity without discrimination based on age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status. The company also requires background checks and drug screenings in compliance with applicable laws to maintain a safe, trustworthy work environment.

The Shuttle Driver role at McLane involves the critical task of delivering full trailers to specific domiciles and returning empty trailers to the distribution center. This position is vital to the efficiency of the supply chain and the smooth operation of distribution processes. Shuttle Drivers play an essential role in ensuring that transportation schedules are met while maintaining the highest safety standards. The role demands pre- and post-trip inspections of rigs to identify and report defects in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Drivers are responsible for securing the product within trailers to prevent damage during transit and maintaining accurate driver logs, whether manually or via electronic systems like PeopleNet. Occasionally, Shuttle Drivers may perform additional hauling tasks such as line haul or backhaul assignments, demonstrating the need for adaptability within the role. McLane provides competitive daily pay of $265, which reflects the importance and responsibility of the position. Moreover, the company offers a comprehensive benefits package from day one, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, along with financial tools like FSA/HSA and company-paid life insurance. Employees also enjoy paid holidays, vacation time accrual, sick leave, and access to a 401(k) profit-sharing plan after 90 days, designed to support long-term financial security. Beyond these core benefits, McLane provides further employee support through programs such as pet insurance, maternity and paternity leave, employee assistance, discount programs, and tuition reimbursement, reinforcing its dedication to employee welfare and career development.

Candidates for the Shuttle Driver position must be at least 21 years old, possess a valid Class A commercial driver's license (CDL-A), and have a minimum of one year or 50,000 verifiable miles of tractor-trailer driving experience. Meeting McLane’s Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and risk rating qualifications is mandatory to ensure adherence to safety and performance standards. Since safety is a paramount concern, candidates must be able to read, write, and comprehend English sufficiently to perform job-related tasks, including understanding safety protocols and work instructions, to comply with workplace safety regulations effectively. This role suits individuals who are safety-focused, reliable, adaptable, and dedicated, qualities that align with McLane’s core values and mission to move America forward. Working as a Shuttle Driver at McLane is more than a job; it’s a career opportunity to join a leading distribution company with a proud history, a supportive culture, and opportunities for personal and professional growth within a dynamic industry.
