Job Description
The hiring establishment is a company specializing in the delivery of building materials and related products. This organization operates within a production environment that includes temperature variations, exposure to hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, increased noise levels, and dust. Known for its commitment to safety, customer service, and timely delivery, the company employs delivery drivers who are well-trained, safety-conscious, and professional in their approach to handling and transporting materials. The company prioritizes compliance with driver safety and regulatory guidelines and expects its team members to maintain a high standard of service and operational excellence.
This position is specifically for a non-CDL delivery driver responsible for loading, transporting, and delivering materials weighing between 10,001 and 26,000 pounds to customer sites. The role involves securing loads properly within delivery vehicles to prevent damage during transit and ensures orders are delivered accurately and on schedule. Drivers act as the essential link between the company and its customers, often serving as a customer service liaison by addressing concerns and resolving issues during the delivery process. This role requires maintaining detailed logs of delivery activities, including order verification, mileage tracking, and compliance with hours of service regulations.
The delivery driver must maintain the cleanliness and safety of the delivery vehicle, conducting routine safety inspections to ensure adherence to company policies. Additionally, the role includes operating both forklifts and non-motorized material handling equipment for loading and unloading tasks. Physical demands are significant, with frequent lifting and carrying of heavy materials up to 100 pounds and occasionally lifting up to 200 pounds with assistance. The position requires the ability to perform physical activities such as climbing, lifting, pushing, kneeling, and the physical operation of delivery vehicles.
A key component of the job is adherence to safety procedures to prevent injuries and promote a secure working environment. Drivers are expected to attend periodic safety meetings and contribute feedback to improve safety protocols. The role does not include supervisory responsibilities but requires an individual with a team-oriented mindset and strong communication skills to maintain positive working relationships and offer excellent customer service.
Candidates for this role must possess a high school diploma or GED, be at least 21 years old, and hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Previous delivery experience, especially with building materials, is preferred. The company requires a DOT medical card to be obtained within five days of request and limits moving violations to less than five in the past five years. Basic math, measurement skills, and proficiency in English reading and speaking are essential for order verification and documentation purposes.
This full-time position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic, physically active environment that plays a critical role in the company’s supply chain and customer satisfaction. Candidates who have a strong commitment to safety, customer service, and teamwork will find this role rewarding and well-suited to their skills. The company values relationship-building and conflict resolution abilities and encourages employees to engage cooperatively with their teammates and customers alike.
