Job Description
Performance Food Group (PFG) is a leading broadline foodservice distributor known for its extensive network and commitment to serving a diverse portfolio of local customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company distinguishes itself by combining logistical excellence with tailored customer solutions, leveraging a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts. These professionals provide customers with strategic advice on improving operations, developing innovative menus, selecting optimal products, and implementing effective operational strategies. PFG's approach is not just about delivering high-quality food products; it is about fostering meaningful relationships that help independent restaurant owners and other clients thrive and achieve their business goals.
The company prides itself on a workplace culture that values safety, inclusivity, and employee growth. Employees enjoy a competitive compensation package that includes starting pay at $26 per hour and a standard Monday through Friday five-day workweek. Benefits from day one include health and wellness programs, an employee stock purchase plan, a 401K plan with employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more. This comprehensive package supports both the professional and personal development of PFG's workforce.
The role being offered is a straight truck or van driver position focused on intrastate and interstate deliveries along local routes. This position involves delivering and unloading various food and food-related products to customers, often handling urgent orders arising from mispicks or customer service concerns. Drivers play a critical role in supporting America’s food distribution system by ensuring the timely, safe, and accurate delivery of products, contributing directly to the customer experience and operational success.
In this role, safety is paramount. Drivers are expected to conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of their vehicles and trailers according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, maintain compliance with safety guidelines and company policies, and promptly report any issues or hazards. Product handling responsibilities include verifying the load’s accuracy and condition, securing freight properly, unloading products, and managing customer interactions to ensure delivery confirmations and, where applicable, cash or check collection.
The job also encompasses routine housekeeping duties in the vehicle and loading areas, paperwork management, and adherence to federal and state regulations regarding hours of service. PFG emphasizes a work environment marked by respect, recognition, and rewards, fostering inclusion and encouraging employees to grow within the company. Drivers are equipped with the necessary tools and training to operate equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates safely to maneuver product cases typically weighing between 60 and 90 pounds.
Performance Food Group’s commitment extends beyond business success to fostering an equitable workplace. The company upholds robust equal employment opportunity practices, ensuring fair treatment for all employees and applicants. This job opportunity at PFG is ideal for candidates seeking stable, rewarding work with a company that values safety, professionalism, and employee development in the food distribution industry.
