The Driver, Hourly CDL-B role at Vistar is a crucial position responsible for ensuring the safe and timely delivery of food and food-related products across both intrastate and interstate routes. This hourly employment opportunity comes with a dependable schedule from Monday through Friday, starting at 6 am and continuing until the day's routes are complete. The driver is entrusted with operating tractor trailers or straight trucks for various routes, including local deliveries, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive and drop assignments.
This role involves much more than just transportation; the driver acts as the face of Vistar, building positive, lasting relationships with customers through professional communication and reliable service. Duties include performing thorough pre and post-trip safety inspections of equipment and trailers, adhering strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and ensuring all freight is properly loaded, secured, and accounted for according to customer invoices. Attention to detail is critical as the driver must accurately complete all necessary paperwork, verify deliveries, collect payments when required, and handle customer returns and damaged goods professionally.
To succeed in this role, drivers must have a valid CDL-B license, a clean driving record for the past three years, and meet all state licensing requirements. They must also pass all drug, background, and road tests, and either possess or be able to obtain a DOT Health Card. Physical fitness is necessary since the role involves hand-lifting products that can range significantly in weight, using equipment like lift gates and two-wheelers to move freight efficiently. The company promotes safety and regulatory compliance as top priorities and encourages every driver to report hazards and maintain clean, organized vehicles and work areas.
For drivers dedicated to a career in food distribution and transportation, Vistar offers a supportive environment with growth opportunities and a chance to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s food supply chain. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking for a stable career with a respected company that values diversity, inclusivity, and employee development.
