The role in question is a Truck Driver position responsible for safely transporting food and food-related products on intrastate and interstate routes. This opportunity offers a well-structured schedule of a 4-day workweek with weekends off, featuring 3 days on the road (over-the-road or OTR) and 1 local day. The driver will operate either a tractor trailer or a straight truck according to predetermined routes, adhering strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations alongside company safety policies. A key aspect of the role involves ensuring timely and accurate deliveries to Vistar’s diverse customer base, encompassing various food service and retail outlets.
In this role, the driver must conduct thorough safety inspections of their vehicle before and after shifts to comply with federal and company standards. They are responsible for verifying the security and proper handling of freight, maintaining accurate delivery documentation, and addressing any discrepancies or damage with supervisors as per company protocols. Customer interaction forms an important part of the job, requiring professionalism in verifying deliveries, obtaining signatures, and handling monetary transactions when needed, including cash or checks.
Additional responsibilities include securing the tractor, trailer, and freight at all times, managing loading docks efficiently, and performing general housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe work environment. Drivers are expected to keep daily records of hours of service in compliance with federal and state regulations, ensuring transparency and regulatory adherence. This role demands physical capability as drivers will be lifting and maneuvering product cases ranging from 60 to 90 pounds, utilizing equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates.

Job Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age
- clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
- pass pre-employment drug test
- pass road test
- valid CDL A
- valid current DOT Health Card or able to secure new DOT Health Card
- able to hand-lift and utilize equipment such as two-wheeler and lift gate to move product cases
- meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience
- 6-12 months commercial driving experience (customized and specialty)
- 1 year or more commercial driving experience (PFS – b/c they have the driver trainee)
- valid CDL A
- meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
- able to hand-lift and utilize equipment to move product cases/freight of varying size and weight
- valid current DOT Health Card or able to secure new DOT Health Card
Job Duties
- Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
- follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
- inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight, perform count check of items and verify customer invoices
- drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
- unload products from trailer and transport items into designated customer storage areas, perform damage control checks on items and verify delivery with customer obtaining signatures
- ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured at all times
- complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log according to federal DOT and company requirements
