This driver role at Vistar is an excellent opportunity for seasoned commercial drivers seeking a position that minimizes physical strain thanks to the company's focus on almost completely No Touch Freight. This driving position primarily involves operating tractor-trailers or straight trucks for intrastate and interstate deliveries of food and related products. Drivers are tasked with local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes that require strict adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards. The typical schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, with average departure times between 3am and 5am, and shifts averaging 10 hours. Drivers may have up to one overnight stay per week depending on business needs, with accommodations in safe hotels and provided per diem, adding comfort and convenience to the role.

The responsibilities of this driver position include performing essential safety checks such as pre- and post-trip inspections of the tractor, truck, and trailer to ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company standards. The driver is responsible for verifying freight loads, securing cargo, managing delivery documentation accurately, and maintaining communication with customers and supervisors. Deliveries must be conducted safely, professionally, and efficiently, ensuring items are unloaded properly and customer orders are verified and signed off. The role also involves routine housekeeping duties to maintain the cleanliness and safety of equipment and work areas.

Compensation for this role includes a significant sign-on bonus of up to $10,000, paid over one year, which highlights Vistar’s commitment to attracting and retaining quality driving professionals. The position requires a valid CDL A license and compliance with all state and federal regulations, including health card possession or ability to obtain one, clean motor vehicle reports, and successful completion of drug and road tests. Job Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • Pass pre-employment drug test
  • Pass road test
  • Valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift
  • Product generally ranges from approximately 60 to 90 pounds, depending on the location

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience
  • 6-12 months commercial driving experience (Customized and Specialty)
  • 1 year or more commercial driving experience (PFS – b/c they have the driver Trainee)
  • Valid CDL A license
  • Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight and complete required paperwork
  • Drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unload products from the trailer and transport items into designated customer storage areas
  • Ensure that tractor, trailer and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times
  • Complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state and company requirements
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
