Penske Truck Leasing/Transportation Solutions is a leading global transportation provider known for delivering essential and innovative transportation, logistics, and technology services designed to keep companies and individuals moving forward. Headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania, Penske exemplifies a dedication to operational excellence and a steadfast commitment to customer success. With decades of industry experience, Penske has earned a reputation not only for its fleet of advanced vehicles and technological innovation but also for its strong company culture that values associates and fosters professional growth. Its comprehensive range of services supports clients in optimizing their supply chains and improving overall logistics efficiency across North America and beyond.
This opportunity is for a Driver Hiring Specialist position based in Phoenix, Arizona, working as part of Penske’s Human Resources and Talent Acquisition teams. This full-time, Monday through Friday role requires the specialist to be present in the office two days a week, with the remainder of the work being completed remotely. The primary responsibility of the Driver Hiring Specialist is to source, interview, and make hiring decisions specifically for professional truck driver roles within Penske Logistics, encompassing operations across the United States and Canada. This role is pivotal to Penske's success, as these specialists represent the face of the company to driver candidates, maintaining a high-touch, personal approach that helps attract and retain top driving talent.
The Driver Hiring Specialist manages the complete life cycle of recruiting activities. This includes identifying and sourcing driver leads through multiple channels such as inbound and outbound calls, social media platforms, email communications, resume databases, and employee referrals. The specialist conveys Penske's value proposition to candidates, highlighting benefits and specific driver opportunities available within the company. Candidates’ information is carefully captured using systems like Salesforce.com for lead tracking and Oracle for candidate management, ensuring robust data accuracy and compliance with company and Department of Transportation (DOT) standards.
Beyond candidate sourcing, this role encompasses managing the application process by taking phone applications, verifying the completeness and accuracy of the applications, and managing candidates through each stage in the Oracle application system. Phone and video interviews are conducted in line with directed selection processes to ensure candidates meet qualification requirements adequately. The position calls for strong multitasking and communication skills as interactions take place via phone and electronic correspondence, demanding efficiency while balancing multiple computer applications and candidate interactions simultaneously.
The Driver Hiring Specialist also coordinates recruiting administration processes such as ordering driving records, initiating background checks through third-party providers, scheduling drug screenings and physicals with approved clinics, and arranging road tests and manager introductions with site personnel. Compliance with all federal and state hiring laws and regulations is mandatory, alongside an active commitment to diversity and inclusion to maintain a diverse and strong candidate slate.
The ideal candidate is energetic, detail-oriented, and passionate about building relationships with potential drivers while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor. A strong proficiency with technology is essential, as precise data entry and information management are vital to the role’s success. Penske offers a dynamic and fast-paced work environment measured against clear performance metrics, ideal for someone who thrives independently while also contributing as part of a collaborative team. This position supports the company’s ongoing goal to maintain operational excellence by hiring top talent that ensures customer satisfaction and business continuity.
