The position available is for a Tractor Trailer Driver responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of products. This role involves driving tractor trailers to various customer locations, ensuring timely deliveries, and following established company and industry protocols. In this capacity, the driver will not only operate large commercial vehicles but also be involved in unloading and delivering products according to customer invoices and company standards. Responsibilities include handling a variety of goods, including food and restaurant items requiring strict adherence to food safety guidelines, operating specialized equipment such as hand carts and pallets, and maintaining accurate paperwork and logs in compliance with DOT and company regulations. The role demands a high level of alertness and professionalism, especially in dealing with hazardous materials and navigating diverse weather conditions.

Applicants for this position should expect to work an overnight schedule including weekends, holidays, overtime, and varying start times to meet customer needs effectively. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma GED equivalent degree or completion of a tractor trailer driving school
  • Licensed Class A commercial driver's license
  • Insurable to operate company vehicle
  • Minimum one year tractor trailer driving experience preferred
  • Ability to read and speak English sufficiently for job duties
  • Ability to handle physical demands including lifting up to 50 pounds and pushing or pulling 350 pounds with equipment
  • Willingness to work overnight weekends holidays overtime and varying start times
  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma GED equivalent degree or completion of a tractor trailer driving school
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License
  • Ability to read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the public understand highway traffic signs and respond to official inquiries
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and Hazmat guidelines
  • Skill in driving over long distances multiple terrains and varying weather conditions
  • Ability to operate a 3 axle tractor 45 to 48 foot trailer straight truck onboard computer keypad and a 2 wheel hand cart
  • Ability to perform basic math functions and communicate in English related to job and safety regulations
  • Experience in handling hazardous materials and frozen dry and refrigerated food items

Job Duties

  • Safely transports product from the warehouse to the customer location and ensures product is delivered on a timely basis according to assigned route
  • Unloads product from trailer by hand or using hand cart down ramps stairs or docks in all weather conditions and places in designated customer storage areas according to customer specifications and company standards
  • Picks up loads and unloads damaged goods and customer returns and transports products back to SYGMA warehouse
  • Ensures all paperwork is completed according to established company and governmental guidelines including DOT electronic or manual logs inspections company vehicle maintenance reports and pre and post-trip reports
  • Ensures all food safety protocols are met according to established guidelines maintains sanitary conditions in tractor and trailer and assists with maintaining sanitary conditions in the warehouse and yard
  • Follows preferred work methods and immediately advises management team of any unsafe conditions
  • Maintains and safely operates all assigned equipment including hand cart pallets load bars SLS unit and personal protective equipment
  • Develops and establishes good relationships with customers by providing excellent and courteous service with clear communication
  • Communicates with management team regarding any deviations to route trailer or loading issues and or customer or product issues
  • Safely transports product picked up via backhauls and line hauls ensuring picked up product is correct and delivered on a timely basis
  • Works assigned schedule including overnight weekends holidays overtime and on-call as needed to meet customer needs exhibiting regular and predictable attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management
