Job Description
Northrop Grumman is a leading global aerospace and defense technology company known for its pioneering spirit and commitment to innovation. The company has played a significant role in many historic technological advancements, ranging from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean to the development of stealth bombers and support for lunar missions. With a heritage of excellence, Northrop Grumman constantly drives forward, delivering cutting-edge solutions that impact national security and scientific exploration. Founded on principles of intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity, and inclusion, Northrop Grumman encourages employees to bring their full selves to work and collaborate on transformative projects. The culture promotes bold ideas and unwavering determination to challenge the impossible and shape the future of aerospace and defense technology.
Currently, Northrop Grumman is seeking a mission-driven Heavy Vehicle Driver to join its Aerospace Systems Transportation and Logistics team at the Palmdale, California location. This role is critical in supporting Department of Defense programs by ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of tooling, materials, and hardware between approved on-site and off-site locations. The Heavy Vehicle Driver will work in a dynamic environment involving frequent travel—up to 75% of the time—making this an ideal opportunity for professional commercial drivers who value safety, reliability, and high-quality performance.
The Heavy Vehicle Driver is responsible for transporting company and government-owned assets securely and reliably. The role requires coordinating the loading and unloading of trucks and trailers with precision, organizing loads to minimize delivery times and reduce waste, and making minor mechanical adjustments when necessary. Maintaining the cleanliness and operational integrity of the equipment is also a vital component of the position. Candidates who thrive in this role typically have a strong safety mindset, excellent organizational skills, and a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance.
Employment type for the driver position is full-time, with a competitive salary range from $22.02 to $36.73 per hour reflecting the candidate's experience and qualifications. Northrop Grumman also offers overtime pay, shift differentials, discretionary bonuses, and long-term incentives for eligible positions. The benefits package includes health insurance, life and disability coverage, savings plans, paid company holidays, and paid time off for vacation or personal needs.
This role requires candidates to meet several regulatory and physical requirements, including holding a valid Class A CDL with a HazMat endorsement, possessing a clean driving record, passing Department of Transportation pre-employment screenings, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Additionally, applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance and complete a new hire physical examination before starting. The position demands a dedicated professional willing to travel extensively and uphold Northrop Grumman's commitment to excellence in defense logistics and transportation excellence.
