Job Description
GFL Environmental is a leading environmental services company specializing in waste management, recycling, and related environmental solutions. As a comprehensive service provider, GFL operates across multiple regions serving residential, commercial, municipal, and industrial clients, prioritizing sustainability and operational excellence. The company is committed to providing reliable, safe, and environmentally responsible services to its diverse customer base. GFL’s fleet and workforce are equipped to handle various waste and recycling requirements, delivering comprehensive solutions through innovative technology and dedicated personnel.
The Front-End Driver role at GFL is a vital position within the company’s operational framework. This role involves operating front-end trucks and ancillary equipment to service a variety of multi-family residential and commercial routes, ensuring the effective collection, transport, and disposal of waste and recyclables in line with customer contracts. The Front-End Driver will be responsible for servicing multiple customers daily according to assigned routes, utilizing commercial trucks to mechanically collect solid waste, and transferring this waste to designated stations, landfills, or drop-off locations.
As a Front-End Driver, the individual must perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, maintain accurate vehicle condition reports, and document route productivity logs in compliance with company policies and regulations. Courteous and professional interaction with customers and the public along the route is essential, addressing questions or concerns promptly and escalating issues to supervisors when necessary. The role requires the physical capability to handle waste containers, maintaining cleanliness and safety around the truck and customer sites by managing any loose debris during the dumping process.
The position also demands precise maneuvering skills, including operating trucks in confined spaces and using mirrors for backing up over distances of up to 120 feet. Navigating routes efficiently involves reading key maps and using GPS systems. Adherence to strict safety standards and practices, including lockout/tagout procedures, is mandatory to ensure safe operation of vehicles and equipment at all times.
This role suits individuals with attention to detail, effective communication abilities, and a commitment to operational safety. Front-End Drivers at GFL play a crucial role in upholding the company’s reputation for dependable, environmentally conscious waste management services. Candidates must hold a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and demonstrate at least one year of commercial truck driving experience or possess a CDL school certificate, ensuring they meet the company’s rigorous safety-sensitive function criteria.
The work environment is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift and maneuver waste containers, consistently operate trucks in outdoor settings, and adapt to varied weather conditions. This position offers a dynamic workday centered on vehicle operation while incorporating essential manual tasks related to waste handling. Safety, compliance, and customer service form the core values integral to the Front-End Driver’s responsibilities and success at GFL.
