The Front-End Driver role at GFL is a vital position responsible for operating front-end trucks that service multiple designated routes throughout the day. This position primarily involves the mechanical collection and transportation of waste and recyclables from multi-family residential and commercial locations in alignment with customer contracts. The role demands expertise in handling commercial frontload equipment, ensuring the waste is safely moved to disposal sites such as landfills, transfer stations, or drop-off centers. Front-End Drivers are expected to maintain a high standard of customer service, communicate courteously with the public and clients, and uphold safety protocols during their operations. The role is physically demanding and requires the ability to maneuver large trucks through tight spaces and traffic while guaranteeing the cleanliness and safety of service sites. Comprehensive pre and post-trip inspections, detailed reporting, and adherence to company policies and legal regulations are critical components of this position. Job Requirements

  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • minimum of one (1) year commercial truck driving experience or CDL school certificate
  • able to meet criteria for safety sensitive functions per company standards
  • demonstrate ability to safely drive truck and operate equipment
  • ability to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance and smell
  • visual capability including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • ability to regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally push or move up to 300 pounds
  • able to enter and exit truck multiple times during a shift
  • ability to climb atop trucks to verify load security prior to transport
  • able to work in loud conditions and outdoor environments under extreme weather
  • valid work authorization without visa sponsorship

Job Qualifications

  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

Job Duties

  • Drive commercial frontload or ancillary equipment along designated routes to mechanically collect solid waste and take to post-collection facilities
  • open container enclosures or gates to access cans and roll 3-4-yard cans into position for dumping
  • perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections and complete vehicle condition reports
  • courteously interact with customers and the public to answer questions or respond to requests
  • clean loose trash off truck and ground around truck and container to maintain clean site and safety
  • maintain and submit logbook, route/productivity sheet, and vehicle condition report as required
  • maneuver truck in and out of minimum clearance spaces using mirrors to back up
  • use a key map and GPS to locate service addresses
  • follow safe operating practices including lock out/tag out procedures
  • monitor operations to detect loose debris and visually scan customer site before and after dumping
  • follow all safety standards and comply with all federal, state, local and company rules on safety and vehicle operation
  • perform other job-related duties as assigned
