Job Description

Feeding Tampa Bay is a prominent nonprofit organization serving ten counties in West Central Florida and is dedicated to alleviating hunger throughout the region. As a leader in hunger relief, the organization distributed an astounding 85 million meals last year, helping individuals and families in need by collaborating with a network of over 400 food pantry partners. Feeding Tampa Bay is more than just a food provider; it is committed to creating long-term solutions by addressing the root causes of hunger and dismantling barriers that prevent communities from achieving stability and well-being. The organization is part of the Feeding America network and continually strives to foster pathways to opportunities for nearly one million residents, including individuals, families, and seniors.

The Class B Driver role at Feeding Tampa Bay is a vital position responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe transportation of food products across the state of Florida. Under the supervision of the Transportation Manager, the Class B Driver is charged with picking up donations from various donors and delivering these essential goods to agencies and scheduled pickup sites. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining the food supply chain that supports the region's extensive hunger relief efforts. This position is classified as non-exempt with an hourly wage of $23.00, offering a stable and rewarding career opportunity for qualified drivers committed to making a meaningful impact in their community.

In this role, the driver will conduct pre-trip inspections of the tractor and trailer to certify that the vehicle is in sound working order and report any defects immediately to supervisors. Responsibilities also include obtaining signatures or stamps on route reports to ensure proper documentation of pickups and deliveries. Maintaining accurate records of mileage, times, and load details is integral to the job, as is adhering to all safety and food handling protocols. Drivers must uphold a hygienic environment both inside and outside of their vehicles, ensuring that food products remain safe and uncontaminated during transit. Additionally, the driver will regularly communicate with supervisors regarding route conditions and any issues encountered to optimize operational efficiency.

Candidates for this position should have a clean driving record, relevant driving experience, and certification or willingness to obtain certification in the use of electrically powered forklifts and pallet jacks within the first 30 days of employment. Food safety certification is also required or must be obtained soon after hiring, which underscores the organization's commitment to health and safety standards. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and work in varied environmental conditions including noise, dust, and humidity. This role demands agility and the capacity to climb, bend, crouch, and maintain three points of contact when boarding vehicles or equipment.

Joining Feeding Tampa Bay as a Class B Driver offers an opportunity to contribute directly to combating hunger and food insecurity in a meaningful way. If you are a reliable, safety-conscious driver with a passion for helping others and the physical capability to meet the role’s demands, this position could be an excellent fit for you. Feeding Tampa Bay values its employees and provides an environment where team members can contribute to a mission that makes a tangible difference in the lives of many.
