Job Description

The Greater Cleveland Food Bank is the largest hunger relief organization in Northeast Ohio, committed to providing nutritious food and essential resources to individuals and families facing hunger across several counties including Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake, Ashland, and Richland. In 2024, the organization successfully provided over 50 million meals to those in need, demonstrating its deep-rooted commitment to combating food insecurity in the community. Rooted in a mission to collaboratively support neighbors facing hunger, the Food Bank strongly believes in fostering a community where everyone has access to adequate nutrition and the resources necessary to thrive. Their mission statement underscores the collective effort they champion: "Together with our community, we provide nutritious food and essential resources so our neighbors facing hunger can thrive." This highlights the organization's collaborative approach and holistic perspective in addressing hunger beyond just food distribution.

Joining the Greater Cleveland Food Bank means becoming part of a mission-driven organization with a supportive culture that prioritizes continuous learning and development for its staff. Employees are welcomed into an environment that values their growth, ensuring they are equipped to contribute effectively to the organization's goals. The Food Bank offers competitive pay starting at $23.08 per hour, commensurate with experience, alongside excellent benefits. These benefits include paid time off and holiday pay from day one, affordable medical, dental, and vision insurance, a generous retirement plan, wellness programs, childcare assistance, tuition, and student loan assistance, short-term and long-term disability coverage, and life insurance. This comprehensive benefits package speaks to the Food Bank's dedication to the well-being and financial security of its employees.

Specifically, the available role involves the important responsibility of transporting products and equipment between various facilities, donors, and agencies. This position plays a critical part in ensuring that food reaches those in need safely, efficiently, and accurately. The role requires the individual to personally handle tasks such as loading orders onto trucks according to daily delivery schedules, verifying order completeness and accuracy, adhering strictly to delivery and pick-up schedules, and maintaining records related to fleet activities.

The driver must ensure the efficient and safe transportation of donated and shipped products while complying with safe food handling regulations and company policies. Customer service is also a key component of the role, as the individual will interact regularly with agencies and donors, providing superior service that reflects the organization’s standards. Additional responsibilities include return product management, special event logistics, and meticulous vehicle inspection and maintenance, including completing daily vehicle inspection reports.

The position demands a commitment to safe driving practices and requires the candidate to maintain an unencumbered Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class B with air brake endorsement, and DOT medical certification. Tow motor certification and ServSafe training are additional qualifications preferred to support the comprehensive handling and transportation of food products. Communication skills are essential, as the driver must regularly update the Fleet Manager on any delivery or pickup concerns, vehicle conditions, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives such as LEAN council activities, which aim to enhance operational efficiency.

Physically, the role requires the ability to remain stationary and move frequently within office and warehouse environments, operate office equipment, navigate stairs, and lift heavy loads exceeding 50 pounds consistently. The work environment exposes the individual to moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and occasional humidity and airborne particles, necessitating adherence to strict safety and health standards.

Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship, and employment is contingent upon passing background checks, drug screenings, physical examinations, and employment verification during onboarding. The Greater Cleveland Food Bank proudly holds recognition as a North Coast 99 Employer for multiple years, reflecting its standing as a top workplace in the region.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals who are dedicated to making a positive societal impact through their work while benefiting from stable employment and a comprehensive support system.
