Job Description

This hiring establishment is a reputable company specializing in the delivery of construction materials such as shingles, lumber, trim, and sheetrock. Known for its commitment to safety, reliability, and customer service, the company operates within a production environment that includes working with heavy machinery and materials. The business values professionalism and compliance with all safety regulations, ensuring that the transportation and delivery of goods are performed efficiently and safely by experienced drivers. Operating within a dynamic and sometimes physically demanding environment, the company emphasizes a culture of teamwork, customer focus, and conflict resolution.

The role being offered is for a CDL Class A Delivery Driver who will be responsible for operating large commercial vehicles, typically weighing more than 26,000 pounds, with trailers that may weigh over 10,000 pounds. This position is safety-sensitive, and candidates holding a medical marijuana card are not eligible due to the nature of the job which involves the operation of vehicles, machinery, and power tools. The driver is expected to deliver materials to customer sites without damage, maintain accurate logs of deliveries including mileage and product weights, and provide high-quality customer service as a liaison between the company and the customer.

Key responsibilities include loading and unloading materials, ensuring that products are secured correctly inside the delivery vehicle, and assisting customers with the safe unloading of delivered goods. The driver also performs routine safety checks on vehicles, uses hand-held compliance devices (when not driving), maintains hours of service logs, and follows DOT medical and safety regulations. There is also the occasional requirement to operate forklifts or other non-motorized material handling equipment. The driver is expected to adhere strictly to company safety procedures and attend safety meetings to promote a safe work environment.

The physical demands of the job include lifting and carrying heavy materials frequently, sometimes with assistance, as well as operating vehicles that require physical agility and the ability to maintain 360-degree visibility from the cab. The work environment subjects the employee to temperature changes, noise, dust, and exposure to mechanical parts and hazardous chemicals common in production settings.

To be successful in this role, candidates will typically have at least a high school diploma or GED, be 21 years of age or older, and possess a valid driver’s license with a Class A CDL. Experience driving delivery vehicles is crucial, with a preference for candidates who have at least two years of CDL driving experience and one year of delivery driving experience. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as the driver will handle customer concerns and help with conflict resolution professionally. A clean motor vehicle record (MVR) with less than five moving violations in the previous five years is required, as well as the ability to obtain a DOT medical card when required.

The company rewards its drivers by providing a supportive environment that values relationship-building, teamwork, and customer focus. While this position does not entail supervisory responsibilities, the driver plays a vital role in maintaining the company’s reputation for excellent service and safety compliance. This role is suited for individuals who thrive on a blend of physical activity, careful attention to safety regulations, and interpersonal interaction with customers and team members alike.
