Job Description
The Maryland Food Bank (MFB) is a nonprofit, anti-hunger organization dedicated to feeding people, strengthening communities, and ending hunger for more Marylanders. Operating with a mission rooted in expanding access to nutritious food, MFB targets not only temporary relief but also seeks to eliminate the root causes of hunger across the state. The organization supports a vast network of community-based partners that stretch from Maryland's western mountains to the Eastern Shore, ensuring equitable food distribution to all corners of the state. In the previous year alone, MFB successfully distributed enough food to provide over 41 million meals, which equates to approximately 114,000 meals every day. These meals nourish children, seniors, veterans, and hardworking families, promoting health and well-being in vulnerable populations.
MFB's work extends beyond food distribution to include job training programs, access to supportive services and benefits, and robust advocacy efforts aimed at changing laws, policies, and practices that perpetuate food insecurity. Recognizing that more than one in three Marylanders face food insecurity, the organization focuses on systemic change as a critical element of its mission.
The Maryland Food Bank embraces diversity and inclusion as fundamental values. It aims to attract, develop, retain, and promote a talented and diverse workforce, fostering a workplace culture where all employees can contribute to their fullest potential. This commitment to a positive, inclusive workplace environment aligns with the organization’s broader goals of equity and social justice.
About the position:
The CDL-A Driver role at MFB is essential to the organization's ability to efficiently and safely receive and distribute food shipments. This position involves receiving food shipments, verifying the accuracy of deliveries, and completing all necessary paperwork to maintain thorough records. The driver will also be responsible for the proper staging or storage of food products, ensuring compliance with all food safety regulations as well as occupational safety standards. This is crucial to maintaining the integrity and safety of the food supplied to communities in need.
In addition to delivery and receipt duties, the CDL-A Driver assists with warehouse operations including moving inventory—some weighing up to 75 pounds—using both manual and mechanical material handling equipment. The driver supports the warehouse team by assisting with cycle counts, staging inventory in compliance with the FIFO (first in, first out) inventory system, and helping maintain cleanliness within the warehouse as per daily cleaning schedules. Other tasks include sorting salvage items and produce and driving delivery vehicles as needed to ensure ongoing service continuity.
This position offers a competitive hourly pay rate of $24.00 and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and ethics. To ensure a safe and trustworthy environment, all candidates must successfully complete a background check and drug screening process. The CDL-A Driver role is vital for the Maryland Food Bank to continue its mission of combating hunger and supporting the health of Maryland communities. Driven, safety-conscious individuals with a strong work ethic and a commitment to social impact will find this role rewarding and meaningful.
