The Kitchen Helper / Driver role with the Nourished Neighbors Food Program is a vital position supporting the mission of addressing food insecurity in the local community. This part-time position offers an hourly wage of $20 and includes a $250 sign-on bonus upon hiring, making it a great opportunity for individuals interested in contributing to a meaningful cause while earning competitive compensation. Additionally, this role involves safely transporting meals and food supplies to various community distribution sites, partner agencies, and other locations.

The position demands a combination of culinary support, logistical coordination, and customer service skills. Responsibilities include assisting with inventory management, ensuring cleanliness of kitchen spaces, and participating in community events and special projects. You will also be required to perform basic vehicle inspections, maintain accurate delivery documentation, and uphold the principles of courteous, trauma-informed service to clients and partners. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and possibly weekends
  • Previous experience in food service, kitchen support, delivery, or warehouse operations preferred
  • Ability to safely operate material-handling equipment preferred
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor
  • Ability to lift, bend, walk, and carry up to approximately 50 pounds
  • Ability to sit for up to 2 hours

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Previous experience in food service, kitchen support, delivery, or warehouse operations preferred
  • Knowledge of basic food safety practices (ServSafe certification a plus)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends as needed
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift, pallet jack, hand truck, or other material-handling equipment (training/certification preferred)

Job Duties

  • Assist with meal preparation, food packaging, and portioning according to program guidelines
  • Support inventory management, including receiving, storing, and rotating food supplies
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen areas, equipment, and storage spaces
  • Follow all food safety, hygiene, and health regulations
  • Assist with special food preparation projects and community events as needed
  • Safely transport meals, groceries, and supplies to distribution sites, partner agencies, and community locations
  • Load, unload, and organize food items for delivery
  • Conduct basic vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs
  • Maintain accurate delivery logs and documentation
  • Ensure timely and professional service to community members and partners
  • Provide courteous, respectful, and trauma-informed service to clients and community partners
  • Assist with on-site food distributions and pantry operations
  • Support volunteer coordination and set-up/clean-up activities
  • Communicate operational issues to supervisors in a timely manner
  • Adhere to agency policies, safety standards, and risk management procedures
  • Follow proper handling procedures for perishable and non-perishable foods
  • Support compliance with funder, licensing, and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in required trainings and staff meetings
