Job Description
Capitol Materials, Inc. is a reputable national building materials distributor dedicated to delivering quality products and excellent customer service to both commercial and residential clients. With a strong presence in the building materials industry, Capitol Materials prides itself on its commitment to employee growth, development, and maintaining a supportive work environment. Based in Madison, Alabama, this company fosters a culture of inclusion, respect, and safety while offering numerous opportunities for career advancement and professional growth. They emphasize training and work-life balance to ensure that their employees feel valued and supported in every stage of their career.
The Delivery Driver role at Capitol Materials is fundamentally important to the company's operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for safely operating commercial motor vehicles, including flatbed and boom trucks, to deliver building materials efficiently and without damage. This position requires adherence to both company policies and federal and state regulations, ensuring the highest standards of safety and compliance. Delivery drivers will perform inspections of trucks and trailers to identify defects before operation and be proactive about maintaining safety and regulatory standards.
Beyond the basic duties of loading, unloading, and delivering materials to the assigned areas, delivery drivers at Capitol Materials are expected to be team players who contribute to a positive customer experience. This role demands excellent physical stamina, as lifting heavy materials up to 80 pounds is a routine part of the job. Moreover, the ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, is crucial for coordinating with customers, management, and team members.
Capitol Materials is committed to creating an inclusive work environment where diversity is not just welcomed but celebrated. The company encourages its delivery drivers to embody servant leadership principles by valuing the needs and perspectives of others and maintaining a humble and positive attitude. Candidates are expected to work independently and as part of a team, managing priorities effectively while supporting their coworkers and the broader organization.
Physically, delivery drivers will spend significant time operating their commercial vehicles and unloading materials on-site, often in outdoor environments. They must be capable of maintaining focus during extended periods of driving, accurately judging distances, and reacting promptly to complex situations. Additionally, they must prioritize safety for themselves, their equipment, and everyone around them during all phases of material handling and transportation.
In terms of compliance, drivers are responsible for maintaining detailed records and reporting any accidents involving company equipment or themselves promptly. The role demands high cognitive skills, including the ability to prioritize jobs, manage multiple tasks under pressure, and communicate solutions effectively when issues arise. This position offers competitive salaries, weekly pay, and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, and retirement plans, all designed to support the wellbeing and professional development of employees. Capitol Materials also provides paid leave options and employee programs focused on wellness, safety, and employee recognition, which further highlight their commitment to a supportive workplace.
