The hiring establishment is a reputable educational institution dedicated to fostering a safe and nutritious environment for students through its comprehensive food service program. As a school-based entity, it plays an essential role in supporting the health and well-being of children by ensuring access to wholesome meals during school hours. With a strong commitment to upholding state and federal nutritional standards, the institution operates various federally funded meal programs including the National School Lunch Program, National School Breakfast Program, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, and After School Snack Program. This dynamic organization thrives on community involvement and parent engagement, emphasizing a collaborative approach to student nutrition. Employment is part-time, aligning with the school calendar and operating no more than 29 hours per week, making it an ideal role for individuals seeking flexible work in an educational setting. The pay range for this position starts at $12 per hour and can go up to $15 per hour, reflecting the value placed on the critical role these employees fulfill.

The role of the School Food Service Employee is multifaceted and integral to the daily operations of the school’s food service department. Reporting to the food services manager or program manager and school director, the employee's main responsibilities include receiving food items, distributing meals to classrooms or directly to students, and assisting parents with Free/Reduced Lunch Applications and meal ordering. This ensures that students receive their meals efficiently while maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations and policies. The position requires meticulous record-keeping through the accurate completion and submission of essential food service reports. Moreover, employees are tasked with operating and cleaning facilities and equipment to uphold hygiene and safety standards in accordance with Utah State guidelines for food preparation, safety, storage, and disposal.

This role demands a high level of personal integrity, dependability, and a quick-paced, high-energy work ethic to effectively meet the fast-moving demands of a school food service environment. Communication skills are vital, as the employee works closely not only with co-workers but also with parents and students to ensure a smooth and supportive service. While bilingual speaking skills are preferred, they are not mandatory. Candidates must be physically capable of standing and walking for up to 95 percent of the workday and able to lift items up to 50 pounds, demonstrating the role’s physical demands. Additionally, employees must obtain a State of Utah Food Handlers Permit within 30 days of employment, highlighting the emphasis on food safety and regulatory compliance. Training is provided for the specific computer programs used, such as Hot Lunches Online, Google Sheets, email, and Skyward, ensuring a streamlined operation. This part-time position generally runs from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday in alignment with the school calendar, offering a meaningful opportunity to contribute to student health and nutrition in an educational environment.
