Job Description

The Salvation Army Sunnyvale Corps is a well-established humanitarian organization dedicated to providing support and assistance to individuals and families in need within the Sunnyvale community. As part of the global Salvation Army movement, the Sunnyvale Corps operates various programs aimed at alleviating hunger, homelessness, and other social issues. The organization is known for its commitment to service, community outreach, and upholding its religious mission while delivering essential aid to those who require it most. This establishment functions as a non-profit entity that relies heavily on donations from retail partners, community members, and volunteers to continue its impactful work. Employment with The Salvation Army Sunnyvale Corps offers individuals a chance to contribute meaningfully to their community while working for an organization that values compassion, dignity, and respect for all people. The role offered is that of a Donation Driver, an essential position that ensures the smooth collection and management of donated goods which form the backbone of the organization’s food and resource distribution programs. This is an at-will employment position where the employee is required to work diligently in various capacities related to donation pickup, logistics, and inventory management.

The Donation Driver will report directly to the Corps Officer and play a critical role in the organization’s delivery chain by collecting donations from designated retail stores and other food bank sources, transporting them safely back to The Salvation Army Sunnyvale Corps, and ensuring that all items are inventoried, weighed, and properly stocked. This role requires a high level of responsibility as the driver will also be overseeing the food pantry program and maintaining order within the food storage and distribution areas. The individual must be capable of handling and operating a 2-ton truck as well as pallet jacks to aid in unloading and organizing donated goods. Emphasis is placed on accountability and accurate reporting, as daily statistical reports must be submitted to the appropriate programs and agencies to track the flow of donations and assess community impact.

Beyond the physical aspects of the role, the Donation Driver engages with community agencies by attending meetings and staying updated on procedural changes in regulations and requirements. This ensures that The Salvation Army remains compliant with local policies and maintains strong partnerships within the community. The job also involves direct communication and coordination with retail store managers and receivers for scheduling donation pickups, as well as basic clerical duties such as greeting visitors at the facility and maintaining a clean office environment. This multifaceted role demands organizational skills, adaptability, and a strong service-oriented mindset. Given the nature of the position, physical fitness is necessary to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds. Candidates must hold a valid California driver's license and have prior experience driving a 2-ton truck, in addition to data entry skills and familiarity with modern office equipment and relevant software.

The Salvation Army Sunnyvale Corps embraces diversity and accommodates qualified individuals with disabilities, offering reasonable workplace adjustments in compliance with ADA requirements. The organization upholds its religious mission, and employees are expected to respect and support its faith-based initiatives while carrying out their duties. This opportunity offers meaningful work with a purpose that extends beyond a typical job, providing service to the community while being part of a supportive, mission-driven team.
