Job Description
The Salvation Army is a renowned international movement dedicated to serving humanity guided by the evangelical Christian faith. Founded on principles derived from the Bible, it operates globally to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and provide vital social services. The organization is steadfast in its mission to meet human needs in the name of Christ without discrimination, emphasizing love, respect, and compassion in all interactions. As a charitable entity, the Salvation Army offers a broad range of services including disaster relief, homeless shelters, food distribution, rehabilitation centers, and donation-based thrift stores, all aimed at uplifting communities and supporting vulnerable populations.
Within this respected organization, the role of the Donation Pick-up Driver is vital and highly visible, serving as a primary point of contact for donors and the public. This position is responsible for the efficient collection and transportation of donated merchandise, ensuring safe handling and proper delivery to Salvation Army locations. Donation Pick-up Drivers are expected to embody the core values of the organization—respect, care, honesty, integrity, loyalty, fairness, accountability, and excellence. They represent the heart of the Salvation Army’s mission by fostering trust and goodwill through professional and courteous service.
This role demands not only driving skills and physical capability but a commitment to the ethical standards and social mission of the Salvation Army. The Donation Pick-up Driver operates company vehicles to retrieve goods from donors, securely loads these items using specialized equipment, and ensures prompt delivery to designated stores. The driver is tasked with screening donations to confirm their suitability, coordinating with store managers for effective distribution, and maintaining vehicle and warehouse conditions. Responsibilities extend to routine vehicle maintenance, safety checks, and adherence to operational protocols, ensuring that transportation and handling meet organizational and legal standards.
The position is compensated at $18 per hour and requires working in dynamic environments that sometimes involve physical labor such as lifting up to 60 pounds, bending, climbing, and maintaining cleanliness of donation and storage areas. Candidates must possess at least two years of driving experience, hold a current driver’s license, and demonstrate the ability to work independently while displaying initiative and a team-oriented mindset. Flexibility in working hours is necessary to meet program demands. The Donation Pick-up Driver plays a crucial role in helping the Salvation Army fulfill its spiritual and humanitarian objectives, providing essential logistical support that enables the organization to reach those in need effectively.
