Job Description
The Salvation Army is a renowned international movement and an evangelical branch of the universal Christian church. Established with a profound mission to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and serve human needs in His name without discrimination, this organization has been a beacon of hope and service across communities globally. With a rich history and unwavering commitment, The Salvation Army operates in various capacities including social services, disaster relief, and community development efforts, fostering positive change and support for vulnerable populations. The organization is well-respected for its integrity, dedication, and inclusive approach to assisting individuals regardless of their backgrounds.
Joining The Salvation Army means becoming part of a mission-driven team dedicated to doing the most good in every program and service offered. The Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) is one such program that emphasizes recovery and rehabilitation services, providing individuals with opportunities for personal growth and reintegration into society. This center focuses on workforce development, therapy, and skill-building activities to help beneficiaries reclaim their lives. The role of a Production Assistant/Driver at the ARC is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of logistics and transportation essential for maintaining the center's daily activities and outreach.
As a Production Assistant/Driver, you will play a critical role in transporting materials, ensuring the safe and timely delivery of goods, and representing The Salvation Army in a professional and courteous manner to all donors and community members. You will be responsible for following efficient routing procedures and performing vehicle inspections to uphold safety standards aligned with DOT and OSHA regulations. Additionally, this position requires supporting the center’s operational workflow by assisting with loading and unloading donations, utilizing digital tools like the DSS program and iPads for effective tracking and communication, and mentoring beneficiaries to achieve work therapy goals. Your customer service skills will be paramount in maintaining positive relationships with donors, communicating donation policies clearly, and addressing any issues promptly with dispatchers.
This full-time position is based in Cicero, Illinois, offering a competitive hourly wage between $22.00 and $24.00 for a 40-hour workweek. The role demands physical endurance as it involves regular lifting, walking, and standing, as well as adherence to safety protocols such as wearing personal protective equipment. The work environment features store and warehouse settings with varied noise levels and exposure to fluctuating temperatures and occasional dust. A flexible schedule includes early and late shifts, along with some weekend work, to meet the organization’s operational demands.
Working at The Salvation Army presents a meaningful opportunity for individuals who are committed to service and want to contribute to their community’s well-being. You will benefit from the chance to grow professionally in a supportive environment, with access to a comprehensive benefits package and ongoing professional development. The Salvation Army values diversity and inclusivity, welcoming candidates from a variety of backgrounds including veterans, people with disabilities, those impacted by the justice system, and individuals without a college degree. This ensures a broad spectrum of perspectives and experiences enriching the team and supporting the mission of 'Doing the Most Good.'
