Job Description
Montgomery County, PA, is a regional government authority serving its community through various administrative and public services, maintaining operations in areas such as public safety, health, and welfare. The county is committed to delivering high-quality services to its residents, ensuring safety, efficiency, and community support in every action it undertakes. Among the many departments overseen by Montgomery County is its institutional food service and laundry operations within youth centers and similar facilities, where it emphasizes the safety, sanitation, and nourishment of residents.
The Domestic Service Worker (DSW) position within Montgomery County’s youth center food service and laundry departments plays a crucial role in maintaining the well-being and hygiene of the residents. This position involves the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals and snacks, which requires a dedication to high standards of safety and sanitation. The DSW is also responsible for receiving deliveries, organizing kitchen and storage areas, and ensuring that all procedures comply with relevant regulations including public health standards and safety codes.
This role is not only vital for food service but also for maintaining the laundry operations by sorting, washing, drying, folding, and labeling youth center laundry items. The nature of this position requires the individual to be physically fit and capable of lifting heavy food containers and working on their feet for extended periods under sometimes hot and humid conditions. Flexibility is required, as the worker must be available to rotate shifts, work holidays and weekends, and assist various departments as needed.
Safety, orderliness, and punctuality are key expectations for the DSW, along with the ability to maintain security within food and laundry operations. The role demands ethical behavior, good moral character, and the ability to adapt and work harmoniously within a challenging environment including the presence of troubled teenagers in a secure facility. The DSW will also perform record-keeping duties to ensure that all food service and laundry activities are documented properly and in a timely manner.
As an employee of Montgomery County, this role is part of a team dedicated to providing essential support services in the youth center, contributing to the overall mission of community care and institutional safety. The position requires compliance with mandated screenings and clearances including child abuse and criminal history checks, drug screening exams, and a physical examination to verify fitness for the job.
Montgomery County offers a work environment with moderate noise levels, where teamwork and safety are prioritized. The Domestic Service Worker is a permanent position that reflects the County’s commitment to upholding public service and nurturing secure, sanitary living conditions for youth under its care. This role is integral to the day-to-day operations of the county’s institutional services, emphasizing both quality and safety, and ensures continuous operation even during holidays and weekends due to a shift-based schedule. The position offers a structured, supportive setting with opportunities for growth and skill development within public service food and laundry management.
