Job Description

McDonald's is a globally recognized leader in the fast-food industry, known for its consistent quality, exceptional customer service, and iconic menu offerings. With thousands of company-owned and independent owner-operator restaurants worldwide, McDonald's continues to be a place where dedicated individuals come together to create memorable dining experiences for millions of customers every day. The company's commitment to values like diversity, inclusion, growth opportunities, and community involvement makes it a highly sought-after employer in the food service sector.

This particular position is for a Department Manager role within McDonald's company-owned and franchise restaurants. Department Managers are key leaders who take charge of specific operational areas such as Guest Service, Kitchen, or People Management. These roles require both supervisory skills and the ability to manage systems that ensure smooth restaurant performance. Department Managers lead teams during shifts to guarantee customers receive fast, accurate, and friendly service consistently.

As a Department Manager, you will be responsible for managing assigned systems like Training, Food Safety, and Inventory Management. You will set goals, delegate tasks, follow up on progress, and report results to your team and fellow managers. For example, the Guest Service Department Manager ensures crew and managers deliver excellent customer experiences, successfully implement sales promotions, and maintain organization of service zones including the front counter, McCafé, and drive-thru areas.

The Kitchen Department Manager focuses on food quality, food safety, and production efficiency. This includes controlling food costs and ensuring all kitchen staff receive proper training, especially with new menu items. Meanwhile, the People Department Manager handles recruitment, crew training, scheduling, and motivation to meet sales and profit targets. This manager ensures the workforce is skilled, engaged, and recognized throughout their employment.

The role demands physical endurance such as the ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds, stand for up to eight hours per shift, and perform cleaning tasks like sweeping, mopping, and reaching equipment tops for sanitation purposes. Candidates must be at least 16 years old, Servsafe certified, and have completed McDonald's training classes.

It is important to understand that this job posting is for positions within independently owned franchise restaurants, not McDonald's Corporation directly. This means employment decisions, policies, and practices are managed solely by the independent franchisee operating the restaurant. The franchisee is responsible for all hiring, supervision, staffing, discipline, and related employment matters. McDonald's Corporation does not employ the franchisees' employees nor control hiring processes.

The environment is drug-free due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role, and the job description represents a general overview of responsibilities rather than an exhaustive list of every task performed daily. Joining McDonald's as a Department Manager offers exciting opportunities for career growth, skill development, and leadership in a dynamic, customer-focused setting. If you have the drive to lead teams, improve operations, and deliver outstanding guest experiences, this role could be an ideal fit.
