As a Dockmaster at GXO, you will play a critical leadership role focused on coordinating all dock-related activities to ensure trailers move safely, efficiently, and on time. This position operates predominantly during the 1st shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, making it ideal for professionals seeking stable and consistent hours. The role requires hands-on leadership, partnering closely with operations, transportation, safety, and customer teams to manage daily dock functions. You will be the primary point of contact for loading and unloading trailer operations, reinforcing safety standards, and maintaining process compliance.

Your responsibilities will encompass managing trailer sequencing, yard flow, and release procedures while ensuring conditions meet safety thresholds. You will also facilitate communication among internal and external stakeholders, promote a customer-centric mindset, and support dock and yard organization following 7S workplace standards. Using tools such as Microsoft Office 365 and Google Suite, you will track activities, document concerns, and provide timely updates to leadership and teams.

Job Requirements

  • Experience working in a warehouse, distribution, dock, yard, or transportation-related environment
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and across varied terrain
  • Proven ability to follow defined processes, safety standards, and escalation protocols
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage in daily customer-facing and cross-functional interactions
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office 365 and/or Google Suite applications
  • Ability to work extended time outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to stand, walk, and traverse uneven surfaces throughout the shift
  • Ability to maintain situational awareness in a high-traffic dock and yard environment
  • Ability to support a flexible schedule as business needs require
  • Ability to carry objects 3-5 feet weighing up to 50lbs routinely
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time greater than 4 hours
  • Ability to walk continuously more than 10,000 steps (4-5 miles) per day
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, twist, push and pull objects of various shapes and sizes in team lifts
  • Ability to tolerate hot and cold work environments
  • Ability to use powered and/or manual lifting equipment to assist with team safety moving inventory in accordance with established protocols and safety guidelines

Job Qualifications

  • Experience working in a warehouse, distribution, dock, yard, or transportation-related environment
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate dock or yard activities in a fast-paced operation
  • Working knowledge of trailer docking, release procedures, and trailer anatomy
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage in daily customer-facing and cross-functional interactions
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office 365 and/or Google Suite applications
  • Previous experience in a lead, coordinator, or informal leadership role
  • Exposure to safety programs, yard management systems (YMS), or WMS environments
  • Experience supporting or enforcing safe work practices and stop-work authority
  • Mechanical aptitude or familiarity with basic hand tools and dock equipment

Job Duties

  • Champion operation safety as well as support of hand tools and dock-related equipment, as required
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all loading and unloading dock activities, coordinating trailer movements to support daily operational priorities
  • Manage and sequence trailer docking, release, and yard flow, applying knowledge of trailer anatomy and fleet safety standards
  • Monitor dock conditions and exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions are identified
  • follow proper escalation procedures
  • Partner daily with site operations, transportation, yard services, and customer-facing teams to prioritize multiple tasks and competing demands
  • Communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders, maintaining a strong customer service mindset
  • Ensure dock activities align with process guidelines, safety standards, and site SWIs, seeing tasks through to completion
  • Support dock and yard organization in alignment with 7S workplace standards
  • Conduct regular visual inspections and maintain high observational awareness to identify risks, inefficiencies, or potential delays
  • Use Microsoft Office 365 and Google Suite tools to track activity, communicate updates, and document issues
  • Provide coverage and operational support to site leadership and Lead peers as needed
